Fourth of July, 2 p.m., Stillwater Bridge, 90 degrees!
Numerous people, families, children swimming, kayaking, tubing — a bit of paradise;
As I drove by and observed this sweet scene, I was struck by the lone Deerfield police officer giving out tickets to the many cars parked along the road. Really?
On the same day, the Recorder published the Declaration of Independence. Maybe the Deerfield Police should have spent some time reading it.
In a time when children are being separated at the border, more reminiscent of occupied France in 1943, you would think that on the 4th the Deerfield police might look the other way and let the people enjoy the holiday ticket free — and we should all refresh our collective recollections about what it means to live in a free society, despite the ominous messages emanating from Washington, D.C.
