GREENFIELD — The road to Poet’s Seat Tower has been closed while Armani Restoration of Middletown, Conn., replaces the crumbling capstones with precast concrete dyed to match the reddish hues of the native stones used to erect the tower. This is the same company that restored the tower at Mount Greylock. The access road is closed to vehicles because of the danger of falling stones on the road that goes right by the base of the tower. Lyle Cote of Armani is working with the engineer to match the color of the tower where a metal-reinforced poured apron will shed water off the ledge of the base. Cote says he has encountered some issues and soft spots, but that all work should be done by the end of the summer. The road and trail system is still open to pedestrians.
