BERNARDSTON — “With sadness” the Selectboard accepted Town Coordinator Hugh Campbell’s resignation Wednesday night.
The resignation takes effect Aug. 30.
“It has been a pleasure working for the Selectboard for the past seven and a half years,” Campbell wrote in his letter, which Selectman Brian Keir read aloud at a Selectboard meeting.
The Selectboard thanked Campbell for his service and praised his professional diligence, his respect for his co-workers and “his Australian accent.”
“Trying to find a replacement for you is not going to be an easy task,” said Selectman Stan Garland. “Not only because of your knowledge, but because of your personality.”
Campbell will be going to work full time with his wife, managing their antique and vintage business, which he said he has been doing part-time for several years now.
“I feel it’s the right thing to do at this stage,” Campbell said. “It’s not a rash decision by any stretch.”
Campbell said he had prepared a job description and advertisement for his job. The Selectboard hopes to have a new town coordinator ready to begin working by September.
