Jake Dodge and Jason Quinn combined on a five-hitter, lifting third-seeded Pioneer Stone Seals/Travel Kuz to a 9-2 win over No. 6 Hubie’s Tavern Diamond Dawgs in the first round of the double-elimination Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League Sandy Koufax playoffs Monday night at Franklin County Technical School in Turners Falls.
James Robison powered the Pioneer offense with two doubles and three RBIs, while Josh Brunelle had two hits and an RBI. Dodge and Dalton Henderson had two singles apiece and each scored twice, while Cayden Lehtomaki (single, two RBIs) and Robbie Kenyon (single, RBI) also aided the offensive cause in the win.
The Diamond Dawgs’ Reuben Bassett singled and doubled, while Liam O’Donnell had a hit and drove in both of his team’s runs. Cam Lococo and Roscoe Palmer added singles.
• In other Sandy Koufax playoff action, No. 2 Frontier Alber’s Hearing Service defeated seventh-seeded Hatfield, 10-1, at Headmaster’s Field in Deerfield.
Kyle Barnes was the winning pitcher for Frontier, which received a combined seven RBIs from Kevin Baumann and Gehrig Brynda. Both players had a single and a double, while Tom Alber tripled and drove in a run and Matt Como doubled and drove in a pair of runs.
Frontier hosts Pioneer in a winner’s bracket game of the double-elimination tournament Wednesday night in Deerfield at 5:30. Hubie’s hosts Hatfield in an elimination game, also at 5:30 on Wednesday in Buckland.
Greenfield 11U All-Stars holding spaghetti fundraiser
The Greenfield 11U All-Star baseball team is holding a spaghetti supper fundraiser on Thursday night at the Greenfield Moose Lodge on 20 School St.
The dinner — which includes spaghetti, meatballs, bread, salad and dessert for $10 — is to help offset the costs of lodging and travel for the team. Kids under 10 can eat for free.
The Moose Lodge is also running a can drive to benefit the Salvation Army. Any donations are welcomed.

Suburban League
Holly Myers struck out six in a complete-game outing in the pitching circle and added a pair of stellar defensive plays, leading Frontier Red to a tight 6-5 win over the Greenfield Grizzlies in a 12-and-under Suburban League softball game Monday night at Merritt Field in Sunderland.
Hailey Hutkoski helped lead the Frontier Red offense with a hit and two RBIs, while Anna Dyjach was 1-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs. Brianna Storozuk came through with the eventual game-winning RBI single, while Ashley Taylor and Cassidi Mushenski each added a hit. Frontier third baseman Jess Campbell threw a strike to catcher Hutkoski for the final out of the game in the sixth inning, allowing Frontier to hold on the for tight win.
Greenfield’s Margarette Howland and Hailey Haughey were both 2-for-2, with Howland smacking a triple. Ellis Benitez and Kaitlin Trudeau both had a hit and an RBI. Sofia Holden and Mackenzie Paulin combined to strike out eight batters in the Grizzlies pitching circle.
Greenfield (2-4) hosts the Southampton Heat on Wednesday night, and Frontier Red (4-3) tangles with Frontier Blue on Thursday.
• In 14-and-under action, Kameryn Dearborn registered three hits, including a double, but the Greenfield Grizzlies dropped an 8-4 decision to Westfield Batter’s Box at Vets Field.
Gianna Conte struck out 11 in six innings for Greenfield, and she added two doubles at the plate. Brie Widelo and Elizabeth Trudeau both had hits, while Dearborn and Conte combined to score all four runs between them.
Valley Storm 16U
Reagan Dupree had eight hits and three RBIs, while Courtney Dunham had seven hits and drove in eight runs to help the Valley Storm 16U softball team finish fifth in the Coaches Classic held at Murphy Park in Greenfield over the weekend.
Dunham and Gianna Conte combined to strike out 27 batters in five games for the Storm in the pitching circle.
Kelsey Richardson had six hits and three RBIs over the weekend, while other offensive contributions came from Kat Hioe (two hits, two RBIs), Heather Catlin (five hits, four RBIs), Ally Markowski (five hits, four RBIs), Charlotte Doulette (three hits, two RBIs), Calista Lebron (two hits, RBI), Conte (two hits, two RBIs) and Mandy Fuller (two hits, RBI).
Hillside Park Muggle series
After total domination by the Golden Hippogriffs a week ago, the Welsh Green Dragons came to play Monday night.
The squad rebounded with a 3-2 series victory as the two teams met at Hillside Park in the weekly Greenfield Muggle Quidditch series.
Chaser Ben Tardif started the scoring with a 10-point goal for the Hippogriffs but Emmett Chrzanowski tied it for the Dragons. Teammate Jerek Beamon caught the lightning fast snitch, Owen Bliss, to bring the game to a close with a 40-10 win for the Dragons.
In the second of five games, the Hippogriffs evened the score. Beamon and Oliver Cox of the Hippogriffs scored for their respective teams, but the snitch, played by PJ Lloyd, was caught by Liam Bliss for a 40-10 win for the Hippogriffs.
Game three saw the Hippogriffs pull ahead behind the play of Cox, who scored two 10-point goals while keeper Zoe Naughton-O’Connor kept the Quaffle out of the Dragons’ goals. Tardif caught the Snitch, Tristan Bliss, and the Hippogriffs won in a blowout, 50-10.
Game four saw the most scoring, with two 10-point goals by Bliss for the Hippogriffs matched by Elliot Cox of the Dragons, who also scored two goals. It all came down to who caught the very fast Snitch, Emmet Chrzanowski, and that was veteran player Allison Shields for the Dragons in a 50-20 win.
Tied at two games each, the teams took the field for the fifth and decisive game. The teams battled but the Keepers: Dragon’s Chrzanowski and the Hippogriffs’ Ben Tardif, kept out all of the shots on goal at both ends. Finn Mailloux of the Dragons wrapped it all up by capturing the snitch to give the team a 30-0 win and a 3-2 series victory.
Montague Co-Rec
Tom Anderson smacked three home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in a whopping eight runs as Fairview Landscaping edged Business & Pleasure, 13-12, in a Montague Co-Rec Softball League game Monday night at Unity Park.
Wade Hastings was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Fairview, which also received three hits, including a double, from Ainslee Penfield.
Business and Pleasure was powered by Matt Welcome and Aaron Stafford, as both homered on the night. Rilee Stafford was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Karlee Drumgool was 3-for-4 with a double.
• Elsewhere, Malcolm Smith hit for the cycle, and Elysia Ollari was 2-for-4 at the dish to help send St. Stanislaus Society to a 15-10 win over Turners Falls Pizza House Monday night.
Becky Zukowski was 2-for-4 to help aid the Pizza House. Justin Nash also had two hits to go with a strikeout.
Mark K. Memorial
The team of Gene LaCoy, Scott Underwood, Bob Zaikowski and Ron Bovat combined to post a score of 56 to take first place at the Mark K. Memorial Mixed Golf League Monday night at Oak Ridge Golf Club in Gill.
Al Holmes, Andy Chartier, Erik Oaks and Barbara Bennett won a match of cards to finish in second place with a 58.
Montague 3-on-3 tourney
The Montague Parks & Recreation Department and “Next Up Basketball” are teaming to bring local youths ages 18 and under their first 3-on-3 tournament at Unity Park in Turners Falls on Aug. 11.
There will be four divisions: Varsity, JV, 14U and 12U with a four game guarantee/single elimination format. Proof of age required at registration. The cost is $25 per team, with a maximum of four players per team. There will be no separate gender divisions, so teams may be co-ed or all one gender. Each team must have a team captain/coach.

PV pole vault school
The Pioneer Valley Pole Vault School in Bernardston is open by appointment for individual and group lessons through the fall with negotiable rates.
Lessons will be taught by Pioneer Valley Regional School track and Northfield Mount Hermon School pole-vault coach Jim Bell, himself a Masters pole vaulter.
