BUCKLAND — Nomination papers for the Sept. 11 special election are now available from the Town Clerk’s Office. The special election is for a one-year term on the Selectboard, to fill the seat of longtime Selectboard member Kevin Fox, who stepped down last month. Also, there will be an election to fill a vacant three-year seat on the town’s Finance Committee. July 23 is the last day for obtaining nomination papers, which must be filled out and filed with the Town Clerk’s Office by Tuesday, July 24. The office is open Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
MONROE — In a town of 119 people, the Selectboard also doubles as the town’s Planning Board, Board of Health, Conservation Commission and Licensing Board. That’s why David Nash’s departure leaves big shoes to fill. According to Town Clerk and Administrative Assistant Marcella Stafford Gore, Nash resigned from this and his School Committee seat after at least 20 years of service to the town.
Nomination papers are available now for a special election to be held on Aug. 20.
BUCKLAND — The Buckland Historical Society is hosting two open houses in Buckland Center on Sunday, July 8, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Buckland Historical Society Museum, a former school house at 20 Upper St., now houses three floors of historic artifacts and town records.
And on Lower Street (129 Route 112), visitors can find the Wilder Homestead — a furnished 1775 saltbox with five fireplaces, a 1779 English barn with a working antique barn loom, and a shoemaker shop. Admission is free for these events.
SHELBURNE FALLS — The Shelburne Historical Society will host a Family Craft Day on Sunday, July 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. at its museum at the corner of Church and Maple streets (the former Arms Academy building).
Watch and learn about old-fashioned handcrafts, such as weaving, spinning, quilting, embroidery and more. The museum will be open and refreshments will be served.
