MONTAGUE — Acting Police Chief Christopher Bonnett was arrested and arraigned Friday morning.

Montague Selectboard Chairman Richard Kuklewicz confirmed the arrest and arraignment happened Friday morning. He said Bonnett was arrested by Massachusetts State Police.

According to Kuklewicz, Bonnett was placed “on administrative leave while the situation gets sorted out.”

Kuklewicz declined to provide additional information.

No charges were provided by state police when contacted.

With Bonnett on administrative leave, Staff Sgt. Christopher Williams has been named acting chief, a person from the department said Friday evening.

Bonnett was acting chief since Oct. 31, 2017, after then Chief Charles “Chip” Dodge was put on paid administrative leave after an Oct. 12 Greenfield Recorder story detailed a probe into alleged mishandling of prescription drop-box drugs at the police station.

Dodge formally resigned March 5.
