One night after the Greenfield Tennis Cup crowned a first-time champion in the women’s division, it followed suit in the men’s field.
Kyle Maroni defeated Matt Howell, 6-0, 6-2, in the men’s championship match at the Beacon Field Tennis Courts in Greenfield.
The next Greenfield Tennis Association event is the Meet & Greet, which takes place July 14 at the Beacon Field Courts. Players can show up and meet other area tennis players and play doubles action. The event is free.
Teddy Bear falls
Chris Williams hit an RBI single but it wasn’t enough as Teddy Bear Pools suffered a 9-3 loss to Easthampton Savings Bank in a Tri-County League amateur baseball game at Valiton Field in South Deerfield.
Sam Tillona suffered the loss on the mound.
Greenfield Co-Rec
Mitch Mailloux went 5-for-5 with two home runs and two doubles to lead Smitty’s Pub past R.G. Penfield, 25-10, in a Greenfield Co-Rec Adult Softball League game Wednesday at Greenfield Middle School.
Chris Dodge finished 4-for-4 with a home run and three doubles in the win, and Bree Richotte tripled and doubled.
Tyler Leroux and Chris Bowman each smacked a pair of doubles in the loss.
CFC Senior Open
Jim Ruschioni shot a 74 to win the Senior Open at Crumpin-Fox Club in Bernardston on Wednesday.
Hugh Barber shot a 75 and won a tiebreaker over Tom Bergeron for second place, while Tom Helbig shot a 80 and took fourth.
Phil Phillips won low net with a 68 and won a tiebreaker over Jordan Haskell, who finished second. Tom Downey was third with a 69, and Hugo Degray was fourth with a 71.
KOC league
Art Girard was a plus-4 to top the point quota in the Knights of Columbus Golf League at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls on Wednesday.
Bill Brown, Rich Heath and Jim Koldis tied for second at plus-3.
Drew Powell was closest to the pin on No. 7 at 5 feet, 4 inches, while Charlie Peters was closest on No. 9 at 16-11.
Timmons League
Ed Terault and Ed Reagey won low gross with a 36 during the Timmons League at the Northfield Golf Course on Wednesday.
Jim Cadran and Rodney Ebbighausen finished second with a 37.
Kyle Matteson and Bob Bateman won low net with a 27, while Matt Sykes and Dave Phillips took second with a 28. George Northrup was closest to the pin on No. 6 at 11-7, and Jeff Kenney was closest on No. 7 at 14-5.
Terault was match medalist with a 37, followed by Matteson (38) and Cadran (39).
Thomas Ladies
Sarah Rae was a plus-6 to win the point quota during the Wednesday Night Ladies League at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls.
Karren Sacco finished second at plus-5, while Karen Hopkins and April Melanson were third at plus-4. Jenn Murphy, Sacco and Jane Smith won low gross with a 45.
Sue Overstreet was closest on No. 7 at 10-5.
CFC Women’s League
Corky Sysun was a plus-2 to win the personal quota during the Crumpin-Fox Women’s League on Wednesday.
Jill Waldron was even to finish second. Waldron was closest on both No. 3 (18 feet) and No. 9 (66 feet).
Erving League
John Hodgman and Rodney Ebbighausen won low gross with a 34 in the Erving League Tuesday at the Northfield Golf Course.
Frank Ribeiro and Ken Dixon won low net with a 30. Dixon was closest on No. 6 at 20-1, while Tim King was closest on No. 7 at 15-1.
Match medalist for the event was John Hodgman with a 36. Hodgman also
leads the pursuit of the Erving Cup with a large margin over the rest of the league.
