DEERFIELD — State police arrested a 37-year-old man after a high-speed chase that started in Vermont Tuesday evening.
The man — whose name has not been released — exceeded speeds of 100 mph in his black Jeep as he traveled south from Guilford, Vt., on Route 5 through Bernardston and into Greenfield, where the vehicle with Vermont plates merged onto Interstate 91 South.
State police confirmed the man was possibly a suspect in a bank robbery.
He was stopped shortly after 6 p.m. on Interstate 91 near Stillwater Road in Deerfield, police having deployed tire-deflating “Stop Sticks” on the road at least once.
Once in custody, South County EMS was called to the scene to evaluate the man medically.
Responding police departments included Bernardston and Greenfield. Massachusetts and Vermont state police were also involved in the chase.
I-91, which was closed during part of the chase, was reopened around 7 p.m.
Massachusetts State Police at the Shelburne barracks said its officers made the arrest, but declined to give further information. State police said the incident is still being “sorted out” and is under investigation.
