The Opioid Task Force of Franklin County and the North Quabbin Region, in collaboration with the North Quabbin Community Coalition, is holding a “Toiletry Drive for Individuals in Recovery” on today, June 23, 9-11 a.m. in five different locations throughout the rural region.

The Toiletry Drive grew out of the Friends of the Opioid Task Force, the Task Force’s volunteer arm, and the North Quabbin Community Coalition’s efforts this past year to increase awareness of the needs of individuals in recovery or those re-entering their community post-incarceration from the Franklin County House of Correction as they transition from one level of care to another, according to a press release. Often when this occurs, individuals do not have the most essential necessities, such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, and more.

John F. Merrigan, Register of Probate and Opioid Task Force co-chair, said, “We hope the community will help us lend a helping hand to those who need support as they embark upon the challenging but rewarding work of recovery.”

Individuals are urged to shop from an approved list of items, vetted by organizations who serve individuals in recovery, and drop them off at these locations:

In Greenfield at Green Field’s Market, Stop & Shop and Walgreen’s. In Shelburne at Keystone Market and at North Quabbin Community Coalition/North Quabbin Recovery Center.

Items gathered will be sorted, organized and distributed to organizations that serve individuals in recovery in the region.
