Mason Thornton, Johnny Scagel and Owen Babb combined to strike out 10 and Yankee Candle defeated VFW Post 3295, 9-2, in a Frontier Cal Ripken League baseball game Thursday in Hatfield.
Thornton and Shawn Baumann each had two hits, two RBIs and one run scored in the win. Scagel had two hits and one run, and Dylan Camp had a hit and two runs.
Kaden James and CJ Hannum combined for six strikeouts in the loss. Robert Slysz had one hit and one run, and Andrew Canepa and Sean Fabry each had a hit.
Sandy Koufax
Cayden Lehtomaki lifted the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning, helping Pioneer Stone Seals/Travel Kuz to a 5-4 win over Frontier Alber Hearing Services in a Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League Sandy Koufax game Thursday at Headmaster’s Field in Deerfield.
Josh Brunelle had two hits, including a double, for the Stone Seals, while Jason Quinn and Dalton Henderson had two hits apiece. Jake Dodge singled and pitched well in the victory, which was credited to Quinn.
Frontier’s Matt Como paced his team with a pair of deep triples, while Ben Zaranek notched two singles. Kevin Baumann, Max Edwards, Aidan Falla and Kyle Barnes all had hits, and Gehrig Brynda threw the ball well in defeat.
Mohawk Youth
Connor Roberts struck out seven and stroked a two-run double to help the Colrain Giants to a 17-10 win over Rowe in a Mohawk Youth Baseball League contest Thursday night.
Cole Bassett and Mason Bassett each had a pair of hits for the Giants.
Rowe’s Kameron Crowningshield had a hit, while the team received solid pitching from Josh Lively and defense from Naomi Denouden.
FC Babe Ruth
TJ Thibeault and Eathon Bryant combined to allow just one hit with no walks, helping Akey’s Insurance to a 18-0 five-inning victory over Smitty’s Pub in a Franklin County Babe Ruth League baseball game Thursday at Abercrombie Field in Greenfield.
Akey’s, which improved to 3-0, received a 3-for-3 night from Peter Loud, who drove in a pair of runs. Chad Adams was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Joe Monkiewicz was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
Smitty’s lone hit came from Sam Knight, who notched a single.

Gabe Silva, Bodie Burke and Josiah Ballard each had three hits to lead Lundgren Honda past P & B, 19-6, Wednesday, in Greenfield Minor League Baseball action.
Xavier Lackey, Tyler Zdanowicz, Casey Burke and Asa Bouchard each had two hits in the win, while Ben Johnston and Bryce Zraunig had one hit apiece.
Connor Guertin, Ramon Guttierez, Carter Berthiaume and Brayden Sloan each had two hits in the loss.
Newt Guilbault
Kainen Stevens and Julian Kaiser combined to strike out 11 on Wednesday as St. Kaz defeated Montague Elks, 11-2, in a Newt Guilbault Community League baseball game in Turners Falls.
Jeremy Kavolsick had two hits including a double with one RBI and two runs scored, while Kaiser and Jayden Sanchez each had one hit and two RBIs. Stevens had three hits including a triple and scored once, Jackson Cogswell singled and scored, Camden Cogswell scored once, and Jack Day singled.
Caleb Thomas struck out 11 in the loss and also tripled, doubled and scored once. Cam Laster struck out two in relief, and Austin Sumner singled and scored once.

Anna Bucala went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Pipione’s Sport Shop defeated the Diamond Dusters, 14-11, in a Greenfield Girls’ Softball League Ponytail Division game Thursday night at Murphy Park in Greenfield.
Shelby O’Leary went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in the win, and Margarette Howland went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Josalyn Eastman went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Alysia Knapp doubled and drove in a run, and Eva Ferreira had one hit and two RBIs.
Taylor Greene went 3-for-3 with a home run for the Dusters. Madison Liimatainen doubled and drove in two runs, and Anne Kolodziej had two hits and one RBI.
• In Lil Nippers action from Thursday, Marin-Taj Linnel, Chloe Bigelow and Addison Talbot all had four hits to lift the Purple Panthers past Harper’s Store, 5-2.

Carly Norwood clubbed a grand slam and added a single, and Erving captured a 22-11 win over Vernon in a Tri-County League youth softball third round playoff game Thursday night.
Kiera Meattey tripled and added two singles, while Kayla Gauthier (three singles), Emma Gagne (two singles), Georgia Harris-Hendry (two singles, double), Sarah Laroch (single, double) and Audrianna Bassett (single, double) all contributed key hits for Erving.
Ashfield Women’s
Barb Ladd shot an 05 to win the “Reverse your score” contest during the Ashfield Community Golf Club’s Thursday morning Women’s League.
Cyndie Stetson was second with a 15. Diane O’Connell had the fewest putts on the day with 14.
Greenfield Elks League
Through six weeks of the Country Club of Greenfield’s Elks League, two teams are tied atop the standings.
The duos of Aaron Campbell and Tim Gochinski along with Mike Larabee and Tom Rogers both have 34 points. Frank McDonald and Art Belanger are third with 31½ points, followed by Dick Golosh and Sharon Rawson (31) and Alan Ball and John Mackin (31).
Timmons League
Andy Lesenski and Jim Jason shot a 32 to win low gross during the Timmons Golf League Wednesday at Northfield Golf Course.
Pat Varner and Scott Powers were second with a 33. Ray Kendrick and Norm LaCoy won low net with a 25, followed by Steve Lanciani and Jim Cadran with a 28. Lesenski was closest to the pin on No. 6 at 3 feet, 10 inches, while Varner was closest on No. 7 at 7-8. Lesenski was match medalist with a 32, while Varner was second with a 36.
Northfield summer series
Aaron Stone’s time of 19 minutes, 52 seconds led the way Thursday as 32 runners and seven walkers competed in the 3.3-mile Northfield Summer Road Race series.
Marcy Cabanas (21:18) was second overall and the first female finisher on Thursday. Rounding out the Top 10 finishers were Derek Postema (23:30), Toby Moran (24:00), Noah DeRuiter (24:24), Levi Moran (24:46), Mary White (26:38), Chris Krezmien (26:30), Chuck Adams (26:49) and Rebecca Hanna (27:47).
