ERVING — Erving received a $20,000 state grant to complete climate change vulnerability assessments and to develop resiliency plans.
Erving is one of 82 Massachusetts communities to receive such a grant. The Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness program announced about $2 million in grants that would be awarded to towns throughout the state.
“This funding will allow the town to work on both the update to our existing Local Hazards Mitigation Plan as well as use of the vulnerability assessment tools in the MVP program to address local environmental vulnerabilities,” administrative coordinator Bryan Smith said. “In particular, the town intends on focusing on the issues related to storm water management and culvert maintenance. ”
The effort will be led by Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Philip Wonkka.
