NORTHFIELD — This evening’s meeting concerning the Pioneer Valley Regional School District budget and estimated $1 million deficit has been canceled.
The meeting could not be posted in time for all four district towns — Warwick, Northfield, Leyden and Bernardston — because of the holiday weekend, School Committee Chairwoman Pat Shearer told the Greenfield Recorder late Tuesday night.
Some people attending last Thursday’s School Committee meeting brought up this point that the with the holiday, it was unlikely the towns could post the meeting announcement with enough of advance to meet legal requirements.
Sometime next week, Shearer said, the School Committee will meet with the state’s Department of Revenue and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, as well as state Reps. Susannah Whipps, I-Athol, and Paul Mark, D-Peru. They are planning to discuss finances and both the possibility and processes required to close a school.
