SHELBURNE — A three-car crash snarled traffic just over the Shelburne town line near Greenfield on the Mohawk Trail Tuesday afternoon.
Originally reported as a four-car crash, it was discovered that two vehicles traveling west and one traveling east were involved in the incident around 2:50 p.m.
The eastbound vehicle crossed the center line into the other lane, causing the crash, according to Shelburne Sgt. Timothy Budrewicz.
Two pickup trucks and one Mini Cooper were involved, but it is unclear which vehicle had been eastbound. One person was taken by ambulance to Baystate Franklin Medical Center.
A red GMC pickup with Massachusetts license plates received heavy front-end damage, and its airbags were deployed. As it was loaded onto a flatbed tow truck, it became apparent that the front driver’s side wheel was missing.
The Shelburne Fire Department, Shelburne Police, State Police, and a Shelburne fire tanker truck were among the responders. Budrewicz said there were no flames when he arrived on scene.
The scene was cleared approximately half an hour after the call came in, and traffic that had backed up in both lanes of the Mohawk Trail was able to slowly move on.
The investigation of the crash is still ongoing.
