Team Walking Challenge: Grab friends, family or coworkers and help motivate, support and encourage each other to get moving by participating in the Y’s 10k a Day Team Walking Challenge. Event runs June 2 to July 13. Teams of five with the most steps at the end of the six weeks wins. Choose a team name and register (individually) at: walkfranklincounty.org. $100 per team, which includes T-shirts. Pay at the Welcome Center or call 413-773-3646, ext. 0. Using a pedometer or fitness tracking device (conversion chart not used), individuals will log their steps either daily or weekly on walkfranklincounty.org. All team totals will appear under their team name on the Walk Franklin County website. Weeks will run Saturday to Friday. Diabetes Care Program: A comprehensive diet, exercise and education program for people who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Many diabetics can reduce the amount of medication they need to take through exercise and diet. The program consists of three basic small group exercise classes per week, weekly weigh-ins, initial body measurements, food journaling and healthy eating presentations. Held in the private Fit Life Center. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 4 p.m. or 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m. Eight weeks of classes are free for Y members and $99 for program associates and nonmembers. “Just For You”: The Y has developed a personalized weight loss program called “Just For You.” Participants can start this eight-week program at any time. The program consists of initial intake with goal setting, weigh-in and body measuring; weekly one-on-one workouts with an exercise trainer; weekly workout plan (3 to 5 days per week); weekly food journal and weigh-in; two appointments with a nutritionist, access to nautilus room; final intake of weight and measurements and what’s next discussion. Gymnastics Camp: Located in the Y’s air-conditioned gymnastics center. Full-day camp (ages 5 to 14) is designed for boys and girls interested in any level of gymnastics. Each group of gymnasts rotates through different instructional areas each day, including beam, bars, vault, floor, dance and Kid-Fit. Afternoon activities include a recreational swim. Full-day camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fees are $190 Y members, $200 program associates, $210 nonmembers. Mini camp (ages 4 to 5) is a shorter day camp experience for younger gymnasts. They will arrive in the morning, rotate through the instructional areas and have snack and lunch. Children 5-years-old may choose to start the summer with this camp and progress to full-day camp later in the summer. Mini camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fees are $140 Y members, $150 program associates, $160 nonmembers. Half-day camp (a.m./p.m. for ages 5 to 14) provides a shorter day camp experience for newer gymnasts. Half-day camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and noon to 4 p.m. Both camps include free lunch. Option of extended care from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Y’s game room.

Leaders Club Car Wash Fundraiser: On May 12 and 27, the Y’s two Leaders Clubs will be hosting car washes at Auto Zone in Greenfield from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The money raised will help support the club’s activities and year-end trip to Camp Dakota in New Hampshire. The club’s focus is on Y values and learning skills to work with younger children and possibly become future Y staff members. The club members attend bi-monthly club meetings, volunteer 40 weeks per year and do good deeds at the Y and out in the community. Contact Dave at 773-3646, ext. 436, for more information.

Annual Campaign: The Y’s Annual Sustaining Campaign will run until the end of May. All of the funds raised help sustain the Y, a locally funded nonprofit charity, and provide about one-third of the $425,000 in financial aid. The Y provides to local children, families and seniors each year so they can participate in Y programs and camps. Healthy Eating for Successful Living: This is a free program offered by LifePath on Tuesdays, May 15 to June 19 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the YMCA in Greenfield. This program is for people who want to learn more about nutrition and healthy heart and bone strategies. Program includes MyPlate dietary guidelines, water and exercise, label reading, grocery shopping, behavior change techniques, self-assessment and support of a nutritionist or registered dietitian.
