TURNERS FALLS — A bridge connecting Greenfield to Montague will be closed from May 7 until the beginning of July this year for repair work.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced recently that the White Bridge, which carries traffic on Turners Falls Road over the Connecticut River between Greenfield and Montague will be closed to all traffic beginning Monday.
According to a MassDOT press release, the traffic impact is necessary so that crews can repair the bridge. While the bridge is closed, all traffic will be detoured to Route 2A and Route 2 in Greenfield, Avenue A in Turners Falls, and the bridge that carries Avenue A over the Connecticut River.
Also, various lanes will be closed over the bridge during daytime hours between today and Friday so crews can perform bridge deck and sidewalk repairs “in advance of the larger repair effort.”
The entire project includes repairing the bridge deck, sidewalks and rails across the bridge.
MassDOT encourages drivers to reduce their speed and use caution when driving through this area. The schedule for this work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
