Behind a field team that won all but one event, Mahar Regional School rolled past Greenfield High School, 102½-42½, in an Intercounty League girls’ track & field meet Tuesday in Greenfield.
Kianna Reilly won both the triple jump (33-10½) and high jump (4-10), while Kamryn Reilly claimed the long jump (15-8) in addition to a win in the 200 (29.4).
Mahar (5-1, 4-0) also received field-event wins from Chloe Taddeo (discus, 88-1), Maeve Powell (shot put, 29-5) and Sienna Moore (pole vault, 8-6).
Greenfield (1-3, 1-2) received a field win in the javelin from Courtney Danielsen, who tossed it 99 feet, 6 inches.
Delaney Parker took first in the 100 (13.5) and 400 (69.0) for the Senators, while Marie Nottleson won both the 100 hurdles (18.6) and 400 hurdles (80.7).
Greenfield senior Amy O’Sullivan swept the distance events, crossing first in the mile (6:03) and 2-mile (12:58).
Turners 76, Athol 68 — Sophomore Dabney Rollins and freshman Lily Nieves won a trio of events apiece, and Turners Falls High School got into the win column for the first time this season thanks to a 76-68 win over Athol High School in an IL track meet Tuesday in Turners Falls.
Rollins claimed wins in the javelin (76-8) and discus (71-8) for Turners (1-3, 1-2), and tied Nieves for first in the 100 hurdles (20.57). Nieves added victories in the pole vault (6-6) and 100 meters (13.7).
Athol (1-3, 1-3) was led by Crista Jillson’s pair of wins in the 400 (1:11) and triple jump (28-9). Grace Dufour claimed victories in the mile (6:52) and long jump (13-5).
Mahar 92, Greenfield 53 — Three Mahar Regional School athletes won two events each and the visiting Senators picked up a 92-53 win over Greenfield High School in an Intercounty League boys’ track & field meet Tuesday in Greenfield.
Ash Shaw won both the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches) and 400-meter dash (54.6 seconds) for Mahar (3-0, 3-0), while Seb Shaw took first in the 800 (2:10.7) and 1-mile (5:05.7). Hugo Frost joined them as double-winners, taking the 400 hurdles (1:02.5) and triple jump (39-7¾).
Crescens Iavorschi powered Greenfield (1-2, 1-2) with three event wins. Iavorschi captured the 100 meters in 11.4 seconds, and added wins in the 200 (23.7) and long jump (19-3).
Mahar swept the relays, and added wins in the 110 hurdles by Aaron Hendry (16.7), discus by Jon Gariepy (95-2) and shot put by Lucas Seney (35-3½).
Turners 4, Mohawk 1 — Jimmy Vaughn led a sweep of the three singles matches in the No. 1 spot, guiding Turners Falls High School to a 4-1 win over Mohawk Trail Regional High School in a Tri-County League boys’ tennis match Tuesday in Buckland.
Vaughn defeated Mohawk’s Avery Miraglia, 6-1, 6-2, at first singles for the Powertown (3-2, 2-1). Teammates Brian Poirier and Will Turn also won singles matches at No. 2 and 3. Poirier knocked off Dan White of Mohawk, 6-3, 6-1, while Turn beat Tommaso Accornero, 6-2, 6-2.
Mohawk (0-4, 0-2) received its lone point of the match at second doubles, where Evan Shippee and Max Summers picked up a 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 three-set win over Turners’ Joseph Kochan and Mike Boyle.
Turners’ Brody Trott and Josh Gaulin were 6-3, 6-3 winners over Mohawk’s Triston LaCross and Sam Nelson.
Mohawk hosts Springfield Central High School on Thursday while Turners is off until Monday when it entertains St. Mary’s Parish School.
Pope Francis 4, Frontier 1 — Elizabeth Goncalves came back from a first-set loss to defeat Tori Speth 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 at first singles and Pope Francis High School defeated Frontier Regional School, 4-1, in a Tri-County League North Division girls’ tennis match Tuesday in South Deerfield.
Frontier picked up its lone point of the match at first doubles, where Cassidy Bardwell and Coleman Hartner beat Gabby Letendre and Madelyn Letendre 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Athol 3, E. Longmeadow 2 — A huge night from Justin Blake, and some solid performances in crunch time enabled Athol High School to fight off a match point and pick up a key PVIAC East boys’ volleyball win Tuesday night.
The Red Raiders used contributions from their entire roster to earn a 32-30, 21-25, 25-22, 19-25, 17-15 five-set victory over East Longmeadow High School.
Blake finished with 28 kills to go with 38 digs in a monster all-around effort for Athol (9-4, 5-1). Jordan Carrasquillo notched 11 kills in the win, while Anthony Potenti (five kills) provided a spark in the third set for the winners.
“It was a great complementary team effort to win the match,” said Athol coach Sean MacDonald.
Athol shook off a match point down at 14-13 in the fifth set, winning four of the final five points to finish off the league victory.
Sophomore setter Colby Soltysik posted a huge night with 53 assists, as Nick Casella totaled six kills and Zach Aldrich and Colby Mason had four each.
Four Rivers 15, Amherst 6 — Alouette Batteau snared the game-winning catch on an athletic play and Four Rivers Charter School defeated Amherst Regional High School, 15-6, in a girls’ varsity ultimate match Tuesday in Greenfield.
Lyra Macek, who is a team captain along with Batteau, led the team in scoring catches in the win. Alexis Dimitriou had a huge day defensively.
Four Rivers hosts its Invitational Saturday at Greenfield Community College and Greenfield High School.
