Davenport Maple Farm Restaurant closes

SHELBURNE — The Davenport Maple Farm Restaurant has closed one weekend earlier than planned and will be closed for an indefinite period.

Nathaniel and Maeghan (Davenport) Senser have given up managing the restaurant, and are now busy with their new herd of beef cattle.

On Facebook, the Sensers posted: “After running the restaurant for the last 4 years Maegan and I have made the difficult choice to move on. We thank all of our great customers for the support, and although we will miss that, we wish to focus on our young family and our animals. We are not sure what the future may hold for the restaurant but we will keep you posted.”

Colrain Energy Forum set for this Saturday

COLRAIN — The town Energy Committee is hosting an “Energy Forum” on Saturday to discuss two new town energy initiatives that will appear on the Annual Town Meeting warrant next month.

Saturday’s forum is from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Colrain Central School. It’s free and there will be refreshments.

The first article is about adopting a building “Stretch code” that would make the town eligible for state grants for renewable energy projects through the state Green Communities program. Green Communities Coordinator Jim Barry will explain both the building code and the Green Communities program. Tom Champine from the Center for EcoTechnology will explain the Home Energy Rating System (HERS), which is required for all new buildings according to the latest Stretch code.

The second article is about “Community Choice Aggregation,” which would enable Colrain and other local towns to buy a greater amount of renewable energy at a lower cost. Bob Dean from the Franklin Regional Council of Governments will discuss this project.

Colrain Central School student projects on wind energy and endangered species will be on display for this event.

Filming at Glacial Potholes

SHELBURNE FALLS — A camera crew and geologist Richard Little have been given permission by the Selectboard to go down into the Glacial Potholes to film a television segment for Channel 22’s “Mass Appeal” on Monday.

However, the board isn’t sure if the stone steps are still safe enough to use and may seek permission from private landowners for the television crew to enter from another location. The metal gate at the top of the stone steps has been closed for several years to prevent public access and possible injury for which the town could be liable. Also, the raising and lowering of the water level has been a danger to people on the beautiful rocks at times.
