Please support the YMCA in Greenfield’s Annual Sustaining Campaign, which runs through the end of May. The Y has been one of our most important social organizations in Franklin County for over 100 years. It ranks up there with our local hospital and community college and others that provide a warm, welcoming and comfortable space for all to be part of a sustainable community.

The Y is the largest provider of safe, quality child care. It provides important swimming lessons for our youngsters and school-age children and summer camps at Camp Apex in Shelburne and at the Y on Main Street. It provides an introduction to basketball and gymnastics, exercise, wellness and therapy for over 4,000 individuals in Franklin County regardless of their ability to pay full price.

The local YMCA has developed a wellness program with local physicians called “Prescribe the Y” (formerly Exercise is Medicine). Over 800 referrals from 50 primary care providers are referred to the Y each year. Most of these referrals have rarely exercised, if ever, on a regular basis in their entire lives. The health benefits for some are truly amazing.

Y-USA has developed the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program, based on CDC curriculum, which is now available in Franklin County at our Y. One out of every three U.S. adults has prediabetes, but only 10 percent know they have it.

Our local Y is actively working with veteran health issues through the Prescribe the Y program. The YMCA is developing exercise programs to combat the local opioid epidemic and provides disease specific programs such as for Parkinson’s Disease.

All of the above programs are heavily subsidized and need your support. The Y’s Annual Sustaining Campaign helps sustain the YMCA and provides some of the financial aid dollars that over 2,500 children, adults, and seniors need to learn, grow and thrive at our Y each year.
