WARWICK — The hearing for Warwick’s complaint against Verizon has been canceled. The hearing would have taken place Wednesday at Town Hall.

Warwick filed a complaint against Verizon to the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunication and Cable in January about poor landline phone service. Warwick has since withdrawn the complaint, since Verizon offered to repair Warwick’s equipment at no charge.

This settlement is temporary, and Warwick may still refile the complaint if service does not improve after the repairs are made, so residents are advised to continue to make note of service issues.

“The Selectboard have not backed down,” Town Coordinator David Young wrote in an email to residents. “They are giving a promising negotiated settlement a chance.”

It is the opinion of the Selectboard, Young said, that this settlement has effectively saved Warwick the money that a legal prosecution would have cost, and that it has sped up the timeline for a solution to Warwick’s problem.

Even so, the construction will take “some months,” he said.
