GILL — A two-car crash on Route 2 sent occupants from both vehicles to Baystate Franklin Medical Center Tuesday afternoon.

According to Gill Police Sgt. Jason Bassett, a blue Volkswagen van left the westbound lane, striking a red Chevy Impala sedan traveling east at around 3:15 p.m. The crash happened in the area of The Mill gas station.

The sole occupant of the van, an adult man, was transported to the hospital. Bassett said the accident was caused by the van’s driver, who may have had “a possible medical” issue.

There were four people in the Impala, and the two adolescent occupants were sent to Baystate Franklin. One of the youths could be seen being loaded onto a stretcher in a neck brace.

The Impala’s curtain airbags were deployed, and as the van was towed away, it revealed heavy damage to the driver’s side of the Impala, including a bent front wheel.

Traffic on Route 2 was minimally affected during the response and cleanup.

Gill police, Gill fire and Northfield EMS were among the responders.
