ASHFIELD — “The Invisible Comes to Us” is a new album from the partnership of Anna & Elizabeth. Released on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, the record is “a reconfiguration of ancient folk ballads that sees the immersion in Appalachian music move to a place of boundless experimentation,” said Dan Frank of Maude’s Music.
On Wednesday, the duo comes to the Ashfield Community Hall, 521 Main St., for a concert beginning at 7 p.m.
The two have performed at the Atlanta Museum of Modern Art; folk festivals in Brooklyn, the Yukon, Chicago, Maine, and Uzbekistan; residencies at universities; summer traditional music schools; and small theaters and folk clubs across the United States. and United Kingdom.
The performance comes from unique strengths of each artist, Frank said. Elizabeth LaPrelle, praised as a fine traditional singer, is rooted in rural Virginia and a lifetime of singing ballads. Anna Roberts-Gevalt’s musical path has led her from the kitchens of Kentucky banjo elders to sessions in Brooklyn’s thriving experimental music world.
