SHELBURNE — The Shelburne Police Department is hosting a forum on Thursday to discuss problems with current space limitations in its Memorial Hall office, and to discuss a potential location where the department could move.
The forum will be held at the Buckland Shelburne Elementary School cafeteria from 6 to 8 p.m.
Town officials and police chiefs have been discussing the need for a larger police facility for several years. In the past, former Police Chief Steve Walker expressed public safety concerns, especially during times when Memorial Hall is being used for a movie, concert or special event. The town offices on Bridge Street have limited parking for police. And if someone brought in under arrest is belligerent, there could be safety problems with others using the main entrance.
Various sites have been explored as potential police stations over the years, but did not receive town approval.
In a message sent to townspeople, Police Chief Greg Bardwell said Thursday’s forum will include a PowerPoint presentation, police data and a proposal for a new location.
