Competing against a pair of strong Suburban League foes, Mahar Regional School secured a tri-meet split Thursday afternoon in Southwick.
The Senators defeated Southwick-Tolland Regional High School, 84-60, and fell to South Hadley High School, 80-64, in an independent girls’ track & field tri-meet.
Kamryn Reilly led the way for Mahar (1-1). Reilly swept the 100-meter dash (13.5 seconds) and long jump (15 feet, 2¼ inches), while sister Kianna Reilly won the triple jump (33-1¾) and high jump (4-6) against Southwick.
Sienna Moore was a double-winner in the pole vault (7-6) for the Senators. Maeve Powell won the javelin against both teams (87-4), and she also captured the shot put (30-3) against Southwick.
Chloe Taddeo won the discus against South Hadley (78-4) and was the runner-up in the shot put, discus and javelin against Southwick.
Emma Currier took first in the 2-mile against South Hadley (14:07), while individual wins in the Southwick meet also went to Marie Nottleson (87.8, 400 hurdles), Anna Wetherbee (800, 2:39) and Delaney Parker (200, 29.2).
Holyoke 86, Turners 27 — A clean sweep in the shot put and discus led the way, but visiting Turners Falls High School dropped its opener to Holyoke High School, 86-27, in an independent girls’ track meet Thursday at the Roberts Complex in Holyoke.
Kristin Slowinski won the shot put for Turners (0-1), posting a top throw of 24-4, while Dabney Rollins was second (20-1) and teammate Abby Johnson snagged third (19-1).
In the discus, Robbins led the way with a first-place throw of 68 feet. Next came Slowinski in second (65-6) and Jordin Muniz in third (55-4).
Chloie Sumner paced the running events with the only individual victory for the Powertown. The eighth-grader won the mile in 7:27.
Pope Francis 5, Turners 0 — Visiting Pope Francis High School won a pair of close singles matches, and the Cardinals swept Turners Falls High School, 5-0, in a Tri-County League North girls’ tennis match Thursday in breezy Turners Falls.
Elizabeth Goncalves helped set the tone at No. 1 singles, where she edged Turners’ Amber Taylor, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, while Emily Gilbert also won at No. 2 for Pope Francis thanks to a 7-5, 6-3 win over Isabelle Farrick of Turners (0-1, 0-1).
The first doubles tandem of Haleigh Greene and Steph Peterson fell for the Powertown, 6-2, 6-1, to Ramona Holland and Daniela Martinez-Duran. Rachel Tucker fell at No. 3 singles for Turners, 6-1, 6-1, to Sofia Wong of Pope Francis.
Central 3, Athol 0 — Despite a strong effort in the third set, visiting Athol High School suffered its first defeat of the season Thursday night.
The Red Raiders were swept by Springfield Central High School, 25-15, 25-15, 27-25, in a PVIAC East boys’ volleyball match in Springfield.
Sophomore setter Colby Soltysik finished with 19 assists for Athol (2-1, 1-1), while Hayden Herk paced the offensive effort with six kills. Zach Aldrich totaled four kills and four digs, and Anthony Potenti and Jordan Carrasquillo each registered three kills.
Athol next hosts Belchertown High School on Monday.
