As I returned home from seeing my tax preparer yesterday, I thought about where my taxes go. I am pretty happy with how the state spends my money — on our public schools, on recreation, on health care and social services for people less fortunate than me.

But when I look at the federal budget, I am aghast.

Sure, I love my national parks and a few other things, but the majority of our tax dollars go to a bloated military, to nuclear weapons, to unnecessary wars, and to perpetuating a culture of militarism that crowds out support for education, human services, scientific research, and for properly addressing climate change.

We will never create the kind of society most of us want until we “starve the Pentagon and feed the people.” Franklin County Continuing the Revolution invites the community to reflect on these issues at a rally and speak-out on the Greenfield Common on April 14 from 12 to 1:30.
