Free Nutrition Talk: On Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m., the Y will host a community potluck luncheon. Physician Assistant Aaron Greenstein from Valley Medical Group will be speaking about the science of nutrition and how it can improve your overall health. School-age Child Care: The Y has a few openings in its before school and after school child care programs. The programs serve K to sixth-graders from Greenfield, Turners and Gill Schools. Before school care is from 6 to 8:30 a.m. and after school care is from school dismissal until 6 or 7 p.m. The programs are open whenever schools are closed (half days, full days, snow days and vacation weeks). Adult Dancing: Every Wednesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m., the YMCA provides dance lessons and open dancing. There is a different lesson each week. This week, Cha-Cha, March 28, East Coast Swing, April 4, Country 2-Step, April 11, Waltz, April 18, Salsa and April 25, Fox Trot. The evenings are for Y members and nonmembers. These nights are free for Y members and $5 per person for all others. Dance partners are not required.
Intro to Yoga: This is an eight-week course on Wednesdays beginning April 4 from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. The course will focus on learning the basic yoga principles and the practice of asana (postures). Participants will learn to open up all of the major muscles and joints to build strength and stamina and reduce stress. The class will be taught by Gary Newcomb, a 500-hour certified teacher of yoga. Fees are $75 for Y members and $95 for nonmembers. There is limited enrollment for this class. The Y offers 11 yoga classes per week, all free with a Y membership. ’70s Week: March 30 to April 4 the Y will be incorporating the best songs of the ’70s in the following Group Exercise Classes. March 30, Active Together 7 a.m.; April 2, Defend Together 5:30 p.m.; April 3, Active Together 7 a.m.; April 3, Strength Train Together 9 a.m.; April 4, Active Together 10 a.m.; April 4, Strength Train Together noon; April 4, Cardio Step Together 5:30 p.m. Each class is free for Y members and $10 for all others. 2018 Summer Camps: The Y’s 2018 Summer Camp Brochure is available with camps for 4-14 year olds. The Y has two indoor camps, sports and gymnastics, that each provide a full day or half-day option. Camp Apex, the Y’s outdoor camp, has nine weeks to choose from each with a fun theme. Apex also has seven specialty camps for 8- to 14-year-olds. There is also early and late care available so parents can have dependable child care all summer. The Y provides $70,000 in financial aid thanks to donations from the Annual Sustaining Campaign, Y Kids to Camp Golf Tournament and the United Way of Franklin County. Y Full-day Preschool Openings: The Y has a few mid-year openings for its full-day preschool. There are two classrooms, one for 2.9 to 4 year olds and another for 4 to 5 year olds. There are two day (Tuesday and Thursday) and five day options available. The students get to use the gym, pool and gymnastics center for weekly P.E. options.
