NORTHFIELD — Northfield will still host a branch of Thomas Aquinas College, but the plan has been delayed until next year.
The California-based college took ownership of the former Northfield Mount Hermon School last May and now plans to open its New England campus in August 2019. According to Thomas Aquinas President Michael McLean, the project requires “a more generous timeline,” which led to the delayed opening.
Originally, the college planned to open the branch campus in time for the 2018-19 academic year beginning this fall.
In pursuit of their goal to open next year, the College will still maintain the grounds of their soon-to-be campus and promises to work with the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education on its application.
“We remain fully committed to this project and hopeful that we can bring the College’s unique approach to Catholic liberal education to the East Coast,” said McLean.
The National Christian Foundation owned the campus from 2012 to 2017 when it signed the core campus over to Thomas Aquinas College. The college received about three-quarters of the campus’s 40 buildings and half of its acreage.
