ORANGE — Two new members were welcomed to the Selectboard, and one of the first tasks undertaken as a five-member board was the nomination of both Andrea Crete, whose term is running out, and Christian Hains, as animal inspectors. Their terms extend to April 30, 2019, and it was noted that while the Selectboard is the nominating authority, the state makes the appointments.

Selectwoman Jane Peirce said Crete “also serves as the director of health and takes care of rabies complaints. She is on top of that.” The board wanted to add Hains because of the workload.

“She’s not a farmer,” said Peirce, “and not as familiar with farming practices as Christian is and we thought it’d be a favor to the farming community to have somebody come in and inspect their barns who understands better what the farming practices are and can interact with them on a better level.”

The board also made the following new appointments:

Orange Cultural Council — Elizabeth Fountain, for a term of six years; Judy Bisinger, Judy Johnson, Kenneth Johnson, Susan Marshall and Laura Pepper, all for terms of two years.

Disability Commission — Elizabeth Rivera, Michael Batutis.

The following re-appointments were made: Agricultural Commission — Elissa Miller, John Moore. Airport Commission — Julie Cole. Armory Commission — Paul Robichaud, William Ruby. Board of assessors Brenda Piro. Capital Improvement Committee — Richard Inness. Council on Aging — Bonita Bradshaw, Jeanette DeJackome, Joann Wheeler. Emergency Management Director — James Young (1 year). Fire Chief — James Young (1 year). Plumbing/gas inspector — Casey Bashaw. Inspector of Wires — Warren Jenks. Planning Board — John McHale. Sealer of Weights and Measures — J.R. Greene. Town Building Planning Committee — Casey Bashaw, Walter Herk. Zoning Board of Appeals — Casey Bashaw, George Hunt Jr.

Seated on the Selectboard are Ryan Mailloux, Jim Cornwell, Richard Sheridan, and newly elected members Jane Peirce and Tom Smith.
