TURNERS FALLS — A special town meeting will be held Thursday, March 29, to discuss whether Montague will approve approximately $11 million to fund the proposed Department of Public Works building.
Three public hearings were held in January and February so residents could discuss their questions and concerns about what the new building would entail. Now, the town is ready to vote on whether it will provide $11,146,762 to fund the costs associated with building a new public works facility.
The meeting will be held in the Turners Falls High School theater at 7 p.m.
The project was placed on hold March 2017 after the town had to spend $2.4 million to cap an old burn dump, but the DPW is ready to move forward again this year.
The proposed building would sit on 22 acres off of Turners Falls Road, south of the Public Safety Complex. While the DPW would use 5 acres of the lot, the rest would be available for future town use.
Also at the meeting, the town will also determine whether it will provide $756 “for the purposes of paying a bill of a prior fiscal year.”
