GREENFIELD — Continuous snow falling for up to 48 hours is expected to begin Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.
Up to 18 inches of snow — a foot, at the very least — is forecast to blanket Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden counties.
Snowfall will start between 10 p.m. and midnight today.
According to NWS spokeswoman Lenore Correia, the heaviest snow will fall most likely from Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Overnight lows will be around 30 degrees, and wind is not expected to be more than 30 mph in Greenfield during the nor’easter.
The storm is expected to give way to relatively better weather for the weekend.
“Thankfully, it will be a little bit of a break,” Correia said — rain and snow are forecast for Monday and Tuesday next week.
There is a slight chance, Correia said, of snow showers on Friday, “but not on the scale we will see before then.”
For now, Friday, Saturday and Sunday are forecast to be dry, with high temperatures in the low 40s, Correia said.
