ERVING — Erving is proposing a 3.5 percent hike for spending this upcoming academic year.
Director of Finance and Operations Bruce Turner says that spending is estimated to increase to $3,163,512 — $108,014 more than last year.
“A large portion of that is salary and electricity,” Turner said, noting that this budget figure is the figure prior to deductions for grants.
Turner noted that the state has cut back on grants for the Inclusive Preschool Learning Environment program. Two years ago, the grants were reduced by a third per year.
“Next year, we won’t get a grant at all,” Turner said.
Town appropriation is also up 4.2 percent this upcoming fiscal year, meaning the town will have to set aside $122,384 for the budget.
Turner also mentioned that the budget can still change before it’s finalized.
The proposed budget was voted on Jan. 16.
