SOUTH DEERFIELD — Nearly a hundred little princes, princesses and their parents lined up outside of Yankee Candle Village, preparing to see their favorite Disney princesses dance and sing on stage.
The chill in the air didn’t bother them; many little girls donned sparkly, frilly princess dresses paired with fluffy winter coats and snow boots. As they were ushered inside, the building filled up quickly and excited children waited for the stars of the show to come onstage.
Rapunzel was the first to kick off the noon event, followed by Jasmine, Tiana, Elsa and Belle. They each sang songs from their respective movies and invited the audience to sing along.
When Elsa from Frozen appeared onstage in a long, shiny blue gown, the entire room erupted in cheers and helped her sing “Let it Go” and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman.” Her beloved sister Anna joined her onstage to help her build a snowman, who came to life in the form of Olaf.
Not only children were singing and moving; their parents joined in the fun, too, mouthing the words or even belting out the tunes.
According to Yankee Candle Events Manager Barbara Valentine, this is the second year the event has taken place, and it’s been a huge success.
“It was supposed to be a smaller thing, but it got huge,” she said. “It’s a huge value (to children). Girls love their princesses.”
In addition to the noon show, there was also a 1 and 3 p.m. show for the little ones to enjoy. After the noon event ended, another crowd had already begun to line up outside, waiting for the next show.
Jane Mantolesky brought her daughter, Emma, to the show to kick off this week’s school vacation.
“She loves the princesses,” Mantolesky said while her little daughter — in a pretty princess dress, of course — shyly agreed.
“It’s a really good, fun time,” said Emma.
