MONTAGUE — The General Pierce Bridge will be reduced to one lane in alternating directions beginning Tuesday for inspection during the next two weeks.
The bridge will be one-lane only from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m starting on Tuesday, Feb. 20, through Friday, Feb. 23, and Monday, Feb. 26, through Friday, March 2.
According to MassDOT Communications Spokesman Patrick Marvin, the traffic impact is necessary “to allow a bridge inspection by the design team for the future bridge reconstruction project.”
The bridge, located on Montague City Road, connects Greenfield and Montague over the Connecticut River. The bridge, in need of reconstruction, has been on the state’s capital project list. But it’s unclear when that project might become a reality.
“This project is currently in the design stage and crews are continuing to gather data and information necessary for design work,” Marvin said.
