HATFIELD — Three people were injured Friday after a car slid off Interstate 91, crashed into a tree and caught fire.

“The vehicle was fully engulfed and surrounding trees caught on fire also,” Massachusetts State Police Trooper Simon Wolanczyk said.

The crash occurred at 6:54 p.m. just north of Exit 21, off the southbound lane of I-91. State Police, Hatfield Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, and Pioneer Valley EMS responded to the scene.

At least one person suffered a serious head injury, while another reported abdominal pain. All three were transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Police said the crash was weather-related, and there were no road closures or significant delays following the incident.
