Andrew Penner and Henry Lowe combined for nine goals Wednesday as the Deerfield Academy boys’ water polo team defeated Williston Northampton School, 15-10, Wednesday in Easthampton.
Nolen Rockefeller and Shaun Kronenwetter added two goals apiece in the victory for the Big Green, which improved to 8-3 overall with the victory.
• Elsewhere at DA, the girls’ soccer team dropped a 6-1 decision to Worcester Academy, while the boys’ soccer team was defeated by Loomis Chaffee School, 6-0.
The girls’ volleyball team was edged in four sets by The Hotchkiss School, while the field hockey team fell to Westminster, 3-2.
Valley Storm 16U
It was an impressive doubleheader sweep for the Valley Storm 16U softball team Sunday as the squad picked up wins over Valley Storm 14U as well as the Chicopee Galaxy.
In the 8-0 win over the Storm’s 14U team, Courtney Dunham struck out 12 batters in the pitching circle to lead the way. Heather Catlin tripled and homered, while Gianna Conte had four hits and Charlotte Doulette added a home run. Emily Young and Gabby Palmisano had two hits apiece, while Kelsey Richardson doubled and Regan Dupree added a single.
The doubleheader opened with a 16-2 win over the Chicopee Galaxy, where Conte struck out 11 in another solid pitching effort.
Dupree smashed four hits, while Richardson totaled two doubles and a single to go with a pair of RBI. Young finished with three hits, while Palmisano had two hits and Dunham contributed a triple.
Pioneer youth hoops
Pioneer Suburban Youth Basketball will hold tryouts for grades 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 basketball teams on Saturday from 5 until 6:30 p.m. at the Pioneer Valley Regional School gymnasium in Northfield.
Players must live or attend a school within the Pioneer school district to be eligible.

Montague Parks programs
The Montague Parks & Recreation Department will begin accepting registrations for its winter youth basketball programs today. The programs include:
• Start Smart Instructional League for children in grades K through 2 — Program runs Wednesday evenings from Jan. 3 through late February/early March. Cost is $30 for Montague residents and non-residents should call the Rec Dept. at 863-3216.
• Boys’ and girls’ grades 3 and 4 travel team — Runs from week of Nov. 27 through late Feb. Cost is $70 for Montague residents and $75 for non-residents.
• Boys’ and girls’ grades 5 and 6 travel team — Runs from week of Nov. 27 through late Feb. Cost is $70 for Montague residents and $75 for non-residents.

FCTS trivia night
Franklin County Technical School will hold an athletic trivia benefit to support no user fee for its athletic department on Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Kazimierz Society in Turners Falls.
