Claudia Rajballie scored a goal for Frontier Regional School and Delaney Parker tallied a goal for Mahar Regional School as the two teams battled to a 1-1 Pioneer North Divison girls’ soccer tie Friday night in South Deerfield.
The matchup slated the top two teams in the Pioneer North Division as Mahar (9-0-4, 5-0-3) defeated the Red Hawks (8-1-2, 5-1-2) 4-1 back in early September. In the rematch both teams had solid scoring chances and put forth a good defensive effort to settle for a tie.
“I thought both teams played well at certain points of the game,” said Frontier coach Phil Pittelli. “I thought both teams split the first half evenly and each side had quality scoring chances in the second half. Overall I thought both teams played well defensively at times and prevented either team from pulling away.”
Lexa Boyden led the way in net for Frontier turning away 12 shots. Marie Nottleson saved six shots for Mahar.
FC Tech 3, Putnam 0 — Brooke Adams notched a natural hat trick to help Franklin County Technical School shut out Putnam Vocational Technical Academy, 3-0, in a Tri-County League girls’ soccer match Friday in Turners Falls.
Adams converted a pass from Maralee Wiles in the fourth minute to put the Eagles (7-6-0, 6-5-0 TCL) in front 1-0. It remained that way until the 60th minute, when Adams used a pass from Olivia Whittier to double the lead. Adams completed her hat trick in the 73rd minute by heading home a deflection after Whittier’s crossing pass struck the crossbar.
Tabi Hamilton recorded nine saves to earn the shootout. Anna Ramos also made nine saves for the Beavers.
Pope Francis 3, Athol 3 — Grace Dufour scored two goals for Athol High School but the Red Raiders surrendered a goal with 40 seconds left in the game as Pope Francis High School stormed back to secure a 3-3 Pioneer North Division girls’ soccer tie Friday in Athol.
Dufour netted both goals in the first half to help Athol (6-6-1, 2-6-1) jump out to a 2-0 halftime lead. Amber Mahoney added a second half goal for Athol on a pass from Angelica Baptista, giving the Red Raiders a 3-2 lead.
Anna Cichon scored all three goals for Pope Francis, including the game-tying score with 40 seconds remaining to secure the tie.
Haley Wrigley stopped 11 shots in net for Athol.
Athol returns to action today at home against Quabbin Regional High School at 1:00 p.m.
Mohawk 1, Drury 0 — Mary Monohon netted the only goal of the game as Mohawk Trail Regional High School edged Drury High School 1-0 in an independent girls’ soccer match Friday in North Adams.
Monohon took a pass from Erin Laffond, 16 minutes into the first half and slid a shot just inside the goalpost to give the Warriors (3-9-1) the win.
Lilly Seaver pushed aside four shots in net for Mohawk to register the shutout. Mckenzie Dobbert was busy in net for Drury recording 15 saves.
Ware 4, Pioneer 0 — Maraide McClure scored two goals and added an assist as Ware High School rolled to a 4-0 win over Pioneer Valley Regional School in a Pioneer South Division girls’ soccer match Friday in Northfield.
Caitlyn Hess added a goal and registered two assists in support of Abby Hayman (three saves), who recorded the win in net.
Leah Fuess stopped 14 shots in net for Pioneer.
Granby 2, Mohawk 2 — Tommaso Accornero and Tyler Dubreuil both scored a goal as Mohawk Trail Regional High School battled to a 2-2 tie with Granby High School in an independent boys’ soccer match Friday in Buckland.
Accornero scored the first goal for the Warriors (0-10-4) on a penalty kick. Dubreuil notched a score right before the half to tie the game at two apiece.
Dillon Moriarty scored both goals for the Rams in support of goal Ryan Walz, who stopped three shots in net. Wyatt Bandy-Page played well in net for Mohawk, turning away 10 shots.
Belchertown 6, Mahar 1 — A five-goal eruption in the second half helped Belchertown High School pull away from Mahar, 6-1, in an independent boys’ soccer match Friday at the Woodward Complex in Orange.
Maxim Caron and Benjamin Laclair each scored twice and Michael Laughner added a goal and an assist for the Orioles. Riley Drew scored the Senators’ only goal.
Alex Gurganus made 7 saves in net for Mahar, which was outshot 13-1.
Four Rivers 3, Salem Academy 3 — Sully Schnoor scored with five minutes remaining in the game to help Four Rivers Charter School earn a 3-3 tie with Salem Academy Charter School in an independent boys’ charter school soccer match Friday in Greenfield.
The Otters took a 1-0 lead into halftime on a goal from Muiris Lonegran on a lob pass from Tim Stuart. Avani Richardson gave Four Rivers a 2-1 lead on a penalty kick early in the second half but Salem scored two straight second half goals to go ahead 3-2.
Schnoor scored the game tying goal off a rebound from a corner kick to keep Four Rivers undefeated at 10-0-2.
Four Rivers has one game remaining in the regular season as the Otters look to secure the top seed in the River Valley League next Friday against the Eagle Hill School.
