Mohawk Trail Regional High School reclaimed the top spot in the Bi-County League with a 3-0 field hockey victory over Southwick-Tolland Regional High School Friday in Buckland.

Lizzie Herzig and Ashley Walker scored within two minutes of each other to help stake the Warriors to a 2-0 lead. Herzig added a second-half tally for the final Mohawk goal. Abby Sinistore and Shelby Sinistore each added an assist.

Mohawk (12-1-1, 7-0-1) outshot Southwick 31-0. Emma French recorded the shutout without facing a shot, while Claire Stratton was credited with 28 stops.

Frontier 3, Agawam 0 — SkylaBurniske made 11 saves to lead Frontier Regional School to a 3-0 victory over Agawam High School in independent field hockey action Friday night in Agawam.

Kathryn Mason broke a scoreless tie with 12 seconds left in the first half on a breakaway. Then McKenzie Patterson scored 3:08 into the second half on an assist from Olivia Vecellio.

Kimmie Asseng added the final tally with 6:41 remaining, assisted by Patterson.

The Red Hawks held a slim 13-11 edge in shots. Agawam had a 12-7 advantage in corners. Brownies goalkeeper Nikki Bates registered 10 saves.

Frontier (10-2-1) hosts Smith Academy Monday at 3:30 p.m.

Mahar 4, Athol 1 — Mahar Regional School inched closer to a postseason berth with its 4-1 win over Athol High School in independent field hockey play Friday night at the Woodward Complex in Orange.

Lilly Fellows and Gracie Marsh each scored unassisted markers in the first half for the Senators, while Aileen Fitzgerald and Hannah Dupont added second-half tallies. Jessica Walker assisted on Dupont’s goal.

Chase Michaud scored for the Red Raiders with one second left in the contest. Lauren Mackhad provided the helper.

Mahar held the upper hand in shots (18-3) and corners (10-2). Hannah Birch made two saves for the Senators, while riley Pond recorded 14 stops for Athol.

Mahar (6-5-1) travels to Southwick Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Belchertown 1, FC Tech 0 — Catherine O’Connell scored the lone goal of the game as Belchertown High School defeated Franklin County Technical School 1-0 in a Bi-County League field hockey match Friday afternoon in Belchertown.

O’Connell scored with 4:00 left in the first half on a pass from Arianna Piedra and the goal proved to be enough as Kiersten Laramee played well in net for the Orioles, blocking seven shots.

Kailynn Mason-Emond led the way for Franklin Tech in net, turning away 14 shots to keep the game close. Devon Brown played well on offense for the Eagles, carrying the ball through the midfield.

Franklin Tech returns to action on Tuesday at home against Amherst Regional High School.

Girls’ volleyball

Mahar 3, Athol 1 — Maeve Powell recorded 15 kills, eight digs and three aces to lead Mahar Regional School over Athol High School, 25-19, 25-27, 26-24, 25-17, in a PVIAC Northern Division girls’ volleyball match Friday night at Grzesik-Bixby Gymnasium in Orange.

Jordyn Berry also aided the Senators’ offense with 13 kills, as well as four blocks. Lauren Henne finished with 20 digs, Aria Flematti added nine digs and three aces, and Ava Santana chipped in eight digs and three aces for the winners (11-4, 5-3 North).

Julia Ramos racked up 21 assists, three kills and two aces for the Red Raiders (7-7, 3-5). Hannah Lajoie collected 12 kills and three aces, Paige Truehart had 10 kills and two digs, and Abby Roberts contributed seven kills, two aces, two assists and a block.

Frontier 3, Agawam 0 — Frontier picked up its 10th win of the season as it downed Agawam, 25-16, 25-17, 25-9, in PVIAC Eastern Division girls’ volleyball action Friday night at Goodnow Gymnasium in South Deerfield.

Ella Deane led the Red Hawks with 17 assists, six aces and six digs. Selayna Bathurst totaled eight kills and eight digs, Lauren Davenport collected six kills and eight digs, and Ashley Telega contributed five kills.

Frontier (10-4, 6-1 East) travels to Ludlow High School Tuesday.

Mohawk 3, Greenfield 0 — Ashley Reynolds totaled 18 assists, seven digs, five kills and an ace to lead Mohawk Trail Regional High School over Greenfield High School, 25-17, 25-14, 25-23, in PVIAC North girls’ volleyball play Friday night at Nichols Gymnaisum in Greenfield.

Lexi Mazza also played well for the Warriors with 14 kills and 11 digs. Kylie Lowell had two aces and five digs, Gabby Shean added three kills and two digs, Jordan Rice and Kayla Martin both chipped in four digs and Julia Massey contributed three.

Casey Noyes played well for Greenfield, leading the way with eight digs, three aces and three kills while Lexxie Rowell chipped in with eight assists and two aces. Ravin Graves and Jen Ortega each added three kills for the Green Wave.

Golf

Amherst 19½, Mahar 4½ — Eli Kayser-Hirsch fired a 39 and swept four points to lead Amherst Regional High School over Mahar Regional School, 19½-4½, in an independent golf match Friday at Cherry Hioll Golf Course in Amherst.

Eli Slovin also took four points for the Hurricanes (7-6).

Tucker Ninteau took 1½ points for the Senators (6-8).
