Nick Aldrich scored the only touchdown of the game, running in a quarterback keeper from 9 yards out to lift Rocketfusion.com to a 6-0 win over Travel Kuz in a Greenfield Men’s Touch Football League game Sunday at Green River Field.

The Fusion defense was strong all day, with seven sacks — five of them from Frank Stumpo. Travel Kuz had many chances, with Justin Fox and Kendall Schneider making some nice catches, yet the Fusion defense stayed strong all day. Jalen Sanders continued his strong play at defensive back for Fusion with a pair of interceptions.

• Elsewhere, Casey Blanchard tossed a pair of touchdowns and Between the Uprights remained undefeated with a 15-7 win over the Falcons.

Tom Field, the league’s leading receiver, hauled in a pair of TD catches, both in traffic, while brother Jake Field added the extra point.

The Falcons scored on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Mike Murray to Andrew Vega.

• Finally, Jesse Phelps hit Parker Hickey for a 2-yard touchdown, and Alex Pirozhkov and Chucky St. Hillaire teamed up for a sack in the end zone to snag the game-winning two-point safety as Sirum edged Hubie’s Tavern, 8-6.

Hubie’s closed within a score, with a CJ Brady TD run beating several Sirum defenders. Tyler Leroux and Pat Demech also had strong games for Sirum, and Jeremy Darnon and played well for Hubie’s.

Golf

Ashfield Tuesday Twilighters

Dick Cranson and Norma La Belle were the runaway winners at the Ashfield Community Golf Club Tuesday Night Twilighters league this season. The duo finished with 87 points and was honored at the league’s Saturday awards banquet.

The duos of Barb Ladd and Arnie Purington and Terry Norwood and Diane O’Connell tied for second with 59 points, while Bev La Belle and Tony Warhol were next with 58 points.

Hockey

FCHA Bantams

Hunter Haughey scored two goals, and Franklin County Hockey Association captured a 5-1 win over Holy Name Black in a bantam youth hockey game Saturday at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.

Jake Croteau, Sam Knight and Derek Lenois also found the back of the net for FCHA, while Haughey, Croteau, Ethyn Clayton, Matt Provencal and Colin Byrnes registered helpers.

Goalkeeper Josh Bordeau recorded 23 saves while Casey Hoffman and MJ Paulin played well defensively.

Try hockey for free

The Franklin County Hockey Association will be hosting a Try Hockey For Free event on Nov. 4 from 10:30 a.m. until noon at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield. The event is completely free and open to children ages 4-12.

Skates, helmets and equipment will be available for all to come try ice hockey. As part of USA Hockey’s Try Hockey for Free day, FCHA will be one of over 500 locations nationwide.

FC Green

Nick Whitney drove in three runs thanks to a pair of hits, including a double, and Cayden Lehtomaki tripled and singled to go with a pair of RBI and Franklin County Green edged Westfield Orange, 6-5, in a Babe Ruth fall baseball league Saturday at Jachym Field in Westfield.

Jordan Hunt singled in a run, while Andrew Shaw added a single for FC Green, which led 3-0 after one inning and 6-1 after three before Westfield Orange made things interesting late.

Lehtomaki struck out four over three innings of action on the mound, while Nick Crocker (two innings) and Hunt (two innings) closed things out.

• Elsewhere, Jake Dodge, James Robison, Hugh Cyhowski, Tyler Cusson, Nate Sciandra and Jake Lyons combined on a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts and Franklin County Gray defeated Hilltown, 8-0, at Abercrombie Field in Greenfield.

Corbin Leh doubled, singled and drove in a run to lead the offense. Robison had two hits, and Dalton Henderson, Sciandra, Dodge and Cyhowski each had a hit and an RBI. Cusson and Kolby Watroba finished with a hit apiece.

Austin Gilbert had the lone hit in the loss.

Basketball

DRIVE leagues

John Earle and Justin Ciaglo combined for 41 points, and Hadley defeated Frontier, 67-54, in a DRIVE boys’ varsity basketball game Sunday at Pioneer Valley Regional School in Northfield.

Alex Hernandez paced Frontier with 26 points on the day.

• Elsewhere, Brendon Emond poured in 24 points and Mike Menard added 16 to lift Pioneer past Brattleboro, 59-30.

Keegan Givens had 15 points as Brattleboro’s top scorer.

• In girls’ varsity action at Stoneleigh-Burnham School, Keene’s Rian Sovcia helped her team to a 42-32 win over Turners Falls.

Maddy Chmyzinski scored eight points for Turners Falls.

• Other action saw Meg Ayott score eight points in Brattleboro’s 44-11 win over Pioneer.

Paige Loughman was the high-scorer for Pioneer with 10 points.

• In boys’ middle school action, Joe Thomson and Dan Fellows combined for 14 points as Frontier edged Vernon, Vt., 45-19.

• Also, Jayden Fox (15 points) and Ryan Potter (10) both finished in double figures in Pioneer’s 35-25 win over Hadley.

• Finally, Collin Boudreau scored 10 points in the Hawks’ 45-38 win over Northampton in boys’ JV play.
