Goalkeeper Lilly Seaver had a huge night in net for Mohawk Trail Regional High School, recording 25 saves, but visiting Ware High School edged the Warriors, 3-2, in a Pioneer South girls’ soccer game Monday in sweltering Buckland.
“Lilly was absolutely the star of the game,” lauded Mohawk coach Steven Tomi of Seaver. “Ware was relentless on offense and she played a heck of a game. It could’ve been much worse if not for her.”
The visiting Indians (6-0-1, 4-0-1) took a 1-0 lead at halftime, thanks to a goal by Caitlyn Hess, who finished with two tallies. Maraide McClure also scored in the victory.
Mohawk (2-3-1, 2-3-1) scored both of its goals after intermission. Jaxon Palmer tallied in the 42nd minute, while Ashley LaCross scored three minutes before the end of regulation with an assist from Mary Monohon.
Ware held a 29-12 edge in shots.
Mohawk hosts Easthampton High School in a crossover game Wednesday in Buckland.
Mahar 7, Athol 1 — Delaney Parker poured in four goals, and Mollie Burke notched three assists as visiting Mahar Regional School picked up a convincing 7-1 win over Athol High School in a Pioneer North girls’ soccer game between rivals Monday night at O’Brien Field in Athol.
Parker scored four times for Mahar (4-0-3, 4-0-2), which leapfrogged Frontier Regional School for first place in the North with the win. The Senators, which led 5-0 at halftime, also received goals from Kianna Reilly, Hannah Paul and Tori Tenney.
Grace Dufour had the lone goal, assisted by Taylor Cleveland, for Athol (2-5, 2-5), which was outshot by a 14-7 margin. Mahar’s Marie Nottleson made four saves in net.
Athol travels to Greenfield High School Thursday. Mahar hosts Drury High School Wednesday.
Smith Voke 4, Greenfield 0 — Karlie Petlock scored a pair of goals and Emily Bryant notched a pair of assists as Smith Vocational & Agricultural High School blanked Greenfield High School, 4-0, in a Pioneer South girls’ soccer game Monday in Greenfield.
“Despite the sweltering heat, both sides played a pretty clean and spirited game,” said Greenfield coach Patrick Garland, whose team fell to 0-7 overall, 0-6 in the South. “I am impressed with our growth during this first run through the league schedule. We have a couple of independents before we start getting some league rematches. The girls have been wonderful to coach.”
Megan Cone opened the scoring for first-place Smith Voke (5-1, 5-0) in the 15th minute, while Petlock pushed the lead to 2-0 at halftime with an unassisted goal.
Petlock and Marissa Meyhew scored second-half goals, both assisted by Bryant, to account for the 4-0 final.
Pioneer 1, Smith Academy 0 — Sammie Martinez scored the game-winning goal with 17 minutes left in regulation, and Pioneer Valley Regional School picked up a huge victory Monday night in a 1-0 triumph over Smith Academy in Pioneer South girls’ soccer action in Northfield.
“I am so proud of our performance,” Pioneer coach Nikki Pullen offered. “Our goal was to be more aggressive and intense than our past two games, and we definitely achieved that. It felt really good to see the girls working so hard.”
Pioneer (4-1-1, 4-1-1) received 11 saves in net from Leah Fuess, who recorded the shutout. Smith Academy (3-3-1, 2-3-1) held a 15-11 advantage in shots in the loss.
The Panthers, who remained in a tie for second place in the South with Ware High School behind first-place Smith Voke, travels to Hopkins Academy Thursday.
Smith Academy 4, Greenfield 0 — Patrick Lavelle scored all four goals for host Smith Academy, and the Falcons blanked Greenfield High School, 4-0, in a McGrath Division boys’ soccer game Monday in Hatfield.
Lavelle scored twice in each half for Smith Academy (3-4, 3-1), which received a pair of assists from Max Bartlett.
Brendan Di’Augustino recorded five saves in net for the Green Wave (0-6-1, 0-4-1), which hosts Springfield School of Science & Technology Friday.
Drury 8, Mohawk 0 — Jon Boland scored two goals and assisted on two others as Drury High School thumped Mohawk Trail Regional High School, 8-0, in an independent boys’ soccer game Monday in North Adams.
Drury (5-2) stormed out to a 5-0 lead at halftime and tacked on three more for the 8-0 shutout.
Mohawk (0-7-1) was led by goalkeeper Wyatt Bandy-Page who recorded eight saves. The Warriors travel to Sabis International Charter School Saturday at 1 p.m.
