Powers Institute museum posts schedule of events

BERNARDSTON — The Powers Institute Museum has a busy fall planned for its windup season. Third-graders from the Bernardston Elementary School will be visiting, with scavenger hunts for their enjoyment. Scarecrows in the Park, on Oct. 21-22, will find the museum open both days, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the first day and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the second day. The museum will also be open on Sunday, Oct. 1, from 1 to 4 p.m., with Marsha Pratt and Greta Shores answering questions from visitors. Exciting new acquisitions include albums featuring theater, minstrel shows and parades, which were prominent social events in Bernardston for many years. Guests are always welcome at 20 Church St., second floor, with an elevator for your convenience.

Senior Center hosts South Africa talk

NORTHFIELD — Lorrie Byrom will share her experience traveling to South Africa in her presentation “The New South Africa?” at the Senior Center on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m.

Kringle Candle Fall Festival is next weekend

BERNARDSTON — Kringle Candle Company is hosting its Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 30, and Sunday, Oct. 1, starting at 10 a.m. each day.

According to Kringle Candle Co.’s website, the event includes food from the Kringle Café, Hager’s Farm Market, Hadley Sugar Shack, and kettle corn from Scott Roth, as well as music, arts and crafts vendors, hay rides, pumpkin painting, apple dipping, face painting, stilt walking and a Berkshire Brewing Company Beer Garden.

Will Evans and John Waynelovich from Barefoot Truth will perform from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, the Falltown String Band will perform from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, and Dicey Riley featuring fiddler Zoë Darrow will perform starting at 3 p.m. Sunday, according to the website.

Senior Center to hold flu shot clinic

NORTHFIELD — The Senior Center is holding a flu shot clinic on Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 9 to 11 a.m. in Town Hall’s upstairs auditorium.

Those looking to attend are asked to call 413-498-2186 in advance to ensure Walgreens brings enough vaccine, and to bring their medical insurance cards on the day of the clinic.

Dickinson Library to host poetry group

NORTHFIELD — Dickinson Memorial Library is hosting a poetry reading group on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m.

According to a post on the Nextdoor social networking service, the group is led by retired teacher and poet Nick Fleck. Those interested in attending are invited to borrow a copy of Norton’s Anthology of Poetry to borrow and select a poem or two to share with others on Oct. 12. Fleck has offered to copy the selected poems in advance.
