Gabe Tomasi returned an interception 35 yards for one touchdown and caught a 30-yard pass for another, scoring three touchdowns on the day to help the Franklin County Bulldogs to a 30-6 win over Belchertown in a Suburban League Junior Division football game Saturday at the Bourdeau Fields Complex in Turners Falls.

Oliver Postera added a touchdown and rushed for 30 yards, while Tyler Yetter had a pair of conversion runs on offense and also had an interception and another pass defended on defense. Brayden Arsenault rushed for 28 yards, and David Damkoehler ran in a conversion.

Cam Laster and Arsenault each made six tackles to pace the defense, while London Washington made four tackles. William Ainsworth and Ryan Grace had three tackles apiece, and Ainsworth added a sack. Jonathan Breor made two tackles, and Owen Lavalley, Vincent Renauld, Bryce Avery, Damkoehler, Aubrey Renauld, Hugh Cyhowski, Alex Knapp and Joey White each had one tackle.

Frontier Peewees fall

Lawson Landmark rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown over the weekend but Frontier suffered a 16-6 loss to Palmer in a SL Peewee Division football game in South Deerfield.

Garrett Dredge rushed for 18 yards, Landon Clark added 7 yards, and Teddy Cyr chipped in 6 yards.

Dredge and Landmark each made four tackles to pace the defense, while Harry LaFlamme had two tackles and recovered a fumble. Cyr, Matthew Telega, Levi Pickert and Zach Haskell each had two tackles, and Clark, Braiden Dion, Jaiden Lapointe, Ryan Payeur and Kodey Camp made one tackle apiece.

Peewee Bulldogs win.

Brody Girard rushed for 35 yards and added a 26-yard touchdown reception over the weekend to lead the Franklin County Bulldogs to a 30-0 win over Belchertown in a SL Peewee Division game in Turners Falls.

Zaydrien Alamed rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns, and Fabian Balla rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown. Gaven Arsenault added an extra point pass to Nehemiah Rice, and Ethan Burch rushed for 20 yards. The offensive line had a strong game up front.

Zavi Nieces led the defense with seven tackles, while Jonathan Ainsworth and Alamed each had six. D’Angelo Brown made three tackles, Arsenault, Rice and Davian Balls each had two tackles, and Kaleb Pezutto made one tackle.

Colleges

Speth helps Simmons

Celia Speth won four matches over the weekend to help the Simmons College women’s tennis team to a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference matches.

Speth won at both singles and doubles Sunday to help Simmons defeat Emerson College, 5-4, in Boston.

The Frontier Regional School graduate and Simmons freshman partnered with Paola Rios of Miami, Fla., and earned a 8-6 win at third doubles. Speth then went on to earn a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.

• On Saturday, Speth’s two wins helped Simmons to a 9-0 win over Albertus Magnus College in Brighton.

Speth and Rios earned a 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles before Speth took on Kelsea Wildman at fourth singles and earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

The Sharks improved to 6-3 on the season. Speth has now won six or her last seven singles matches.

Preps

Soccer

The Deerfield Academy boys’ soccer team improved to 2-2-0 with a 2-1 win over Brunswick School Saturday in Deerfield.

• In girls’ action, Phillips Exeter Academy defeated Deerfield, 4-1.

Water polo

The Deerfield boys’ water polo team split a pair of matches Saturday by defeating Canterbury School, 11-7, and losing to Phillips Andover Academy, 15-14, in overtime.

Deerfield is now 2-3 on the season.

Volleyball

The Deerfield girls’ volleyball team went 1-2 over the weekend in three matches at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Conn.

Deerfield defeated Pomfret School, 3-0, but dropped 3-1 decisions to both Convent of the Sacred Heart and Lawrenceville School.

Football

The Deerfield football team fell to 1-1 on the season with a 37-27 loss to Suffield Academy Saturday in Suffield, Conn.

Field hockey

Deerfield dropped a 2-0 decision to Hotchkiss School in a field hockey game Saturday in Lakeville, Conn.

Cross country

The Deerfield girls’ cross country team won the Canterbury School Invitational Saturday in New Milford, Conn.

The Big Green boys’ team finished third at the meet.

Softball

Valley Storm wins

Makayla Santos doubled, singled and drove in three runs over the weekend to lead the Valley Storm to a 12-0 win over Westfield in a U16 Fall Softball League game at Nonotuck Park in Easthampton.

Kelsey Richardson doubled, singled and plated two runs for the Storm, and Mandy Fuller had three hits and one RBI. Reagan Dupree had two hits and scored three times, and Charlotte Doulette doubled and drove in two runs. Heather Latlin added a single and an RBI.

Baseball

Babe Ruth

James Robison, Hugh Cyhowski and Jake Lyons combined to strike out 10 hitters to help Franklin County Gray to a 8-3 win over Hilltown in a Fall Babe Ruth League game Sunday in Buckland.

Kolby Watroba had two doubles and three RBIs in the win. Dalton Henderson and Robison had two hits and one RBI apiece, and Nate Sciandra hit a two-run single.

• On Saturday, Sciandra and Robison combined on a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts as FC Gray defeated FC Green, 7-1, at Abercrombie Field in Greenfield.

Cyhowski hit an RBI single in the win, while Sciandra and Watroba each had a hit.

Cayden Lehtomaki had two doubles and an RBI in the loss, and also struck out six in two innings on the mound. Alex Gochinski went 2-for-3, while Gillis MacDougall, Charlie Boyden and Devin O’Sullivan each had one hit. Gabe Zaccheo added three strikeouts on the mound.

• In other action, Zaccheo and MacDougall each had a hit and an RBI but Greenfield Green suffered a 8-6 loss to Longmeadow on Sunday.

Joe Boyden added a hit, while Andrew Shaw and Liam Skribiski-Banack each had RBIs.

Golf

Barber-Collins Two-Ball

Andy Dastoli and Marc Lowell shot a 130 and won in a playoff over Jim Ruschioni and John Fasick to win the First Flight of the Barber-Collins Two-Ball Golf Tournament at the Country Club of Greenfield over the weekend.

Chris Ferriter and Joe Wilson tied Nate Burdick and Jim O’Donnell for third place with a 133.

Hugh Barber and Joe Bartlett won the Second Flight with a 131. Steve Colby and Jeremiah Bayer came in second with a 136, while Phil Phillips and Ed Winseck came in third in 138.

John Ryan and Jeff Racz won the Third Flight with a 141 and a playoff victory over Brandon Fleming and Steve Zaczynski, who also shot a 141. Terry Blanchard and Dave Konopka were third at 144.

Shaun Fleming and Daniel Fleming won the Fourth Flight with a 144. Paul Barnard and Bill Betsold took second with a 145, and Bill Wardwell and Bill Conant took third with a 146.

Roy Emerson and Doug Welenc won the Fifth Flight (net) with a 136. Kevin O’Connell and Dave McDonald were second with a 140, and Mike Collins and Brendan Jacobs were third with a 141.
