ASHFIELD — Ashfield Police Chief Beth Bezio is warning residents to be vigilant in locking their car doors, house doors and windows, following an attempted burglary Thursday afternoon.
Bezio said a homeowner returned home around 12:30 p.m. and surprised a male who was in the home, in an attempted burglary. He ran from the house and an extensive search ensued, by Ashfield police, Shelburne State Police and a K-9 unit. The K-9 unit tracked the suspect but eventually lost the scent.
Another sighting of the possible suspect occurred later in the day, resulting in another search, aided by Shelburne State Police, Conway, Buckland, Shelburne police, a Montague K-9, and the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing and Environmental Police.
“We do have a suspect and have alerted all area police departments,” Bezio said, in a Facebook posting.
“Unfortunately, there have been numerous breaking and entering occurrences in the surrounding towns,” she said. Bezio asked residents to report anything suspicious and to take down all the information possible, including license plate numbers, location, date and time.
