Noel Gomez tells us in his Aug.24 letter to the editor that he “can’t stand to watch the bias and hate leveled at President Trump” and that “this has been by far the worst reaction to a new president I’ve ever seen.”
Mr. Gomez says that he prays “…for Trump every day to do a good job.”
I commend him for that, but his prayers will go unheeded. The Bible tells its believers that “A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will perish. (Proverbs 19:9).
I don’t know about the “hate” part except that’s what our president recently encouraged in the white supremacists in his waffling response to the Charlottesville tragedy.
That said, the “bias” part is easy to explain. Our president is a liar. He can’t seem to distinguish between fact and fantasy. There’s no way anyone can or should believe him.
The Washington Post on Aug. 22 reported that it had been tracking President Trump’s false or misleading claims for more than seven months. “Around Aug. 4 or Aug. 5,” the Post said, “he broke 1,000 claims, and the tally now stands at 1,057.”
My fervent hope is that the Bible’s admonition in Luke 8:17 will come true when the investigation into Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia is completed: “For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.”
As for how long our country has to endure our self-obsessed “leader,” I take comfort in Proverbs 12:19: “Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.”
