Bob Bezio picked up his fifth win of the year in the season finale of the Northfield Summer Road Race Series Thursday night.
Bezio crossed the finish line in 20 minutes, 57 seconds, while Seth Montgomery came in second in 22:39. Eaden Marti finished third in 22:45.
Marcy Cabanas was the fourth runner to cross the line, winning the women’s race in 23:33. The win was the ninth of the season for Cabanas.
Jeff Broached came in fifth in 23:35, Kate Shutta was sixth in 24:18, and Robin McKeon finished seventh in 24:39.
Jason Prats was eighth in 25:10, Andrew Johnson was ninth in 25:27, and Joe Sumner rounded out the top 10 in 25:40.
Clayton Garland recorded the fastest time of the summer when he won the 3.3-mile race on June 15 in 19:23, while Amy O’Sullivan set the women’s season mark on Aug. 10 when she won in 21:32.
The course record is 16:42, which was set by Brad Mish in 2014, while Natalie Mako set the women’s record in 2013 in 21:05.
Don Maynard Race
The 23rd annual Don Maynard 5-Mile Road Race and 3-Mile Walk is scheduled for Sept. 16 at the Green River Swimming & Recreation Area.
The race is scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. start, and runners/walkers can register online at www.runreg.com or go to the Maynard website (www.dmmrace.com).
Ashfield women’s
Joyce Charland and Francie Hall scored a 35 to take top honors at Thursday’s Ashfield Community Golf Course’s morning women’s group.
The game of the day was best ball, with Barb Ladd and Katie Benedetti finishing second with a 39. Kelley Dubrule and Diane O’Connell were third with a 42.
Timmons League
The team of Rick Stempel and Rodney Ebbighausen won a match of cards to capture the low gross with a 37 at Wednesday’s Timmons League played at the Northfield Golf Course.
Bob Messer and George Northrup took low net honors with a 26, while Northrup was the match medalist with a 37.
Pat Varner was closest to the pin on No. 6 (18 feet, 1 inch) and Steve Lanciani was closest on No. 7 (8-10).
CFC Leagues
Jill Waldron finished with a plus-2 quota to finish first in the Crumpin-Fox Club Ladies League.
Terry Boyce was even and finished second.
• In CFC Men’s League action, Mark Waskiewicz, Jon Elkins, Tim Rice and Dave Donaghue were a plus-4 quota to finish first on the week.
Chris Austin, Chris Stoddard, Brett Barnes and Doug Taylor were second at plus-2.
Union 38 youth program
Union 38 will hold an introductory program for girls in grades 3-6 this fall. Players from the towns of Deerfield, Whately, Sunderland and Conway are eligible. The focus will be on skill development with game scenarios later in the season. Feld hockey sticks, shin guards and balls (with a deposit) will be provided to the first 35 girls who register. Players are asked to wear a mouth guard and bring a water bottle.
Practices will run Sundays from Sept. 17 through Oct. 15 from 4-5 p.m. at Frontier Regional School in South Deerfield. Registration is $20 with a $50 equipment deposit (separate checks). Checks will be returned at the last session when all equipment is returned.

PV pole vault school
The Pioneer Valley Pole Vault School in Bernardston is open by appointment for individual and group lessons through the fall with negotiable rates.
Lessons will be taught by Pioneer Valley Regional School track and Northfield Mount Hermon pole-vault coach Jim Bell, himself a Masters pole vaulter.
