TURNERS FALLS — The Gill-Montague Regional School District will be holding two conversations with local community leaders to discuss the future of the district and possible challenges. The first will be on Tuesday, Aug. 15, and the second will be on Sept. 6. Both will be held at the Montague Senior Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Superintendent Michael Sullivan said the meetings will look for input and ongoing discussions with local leaders about the long-term financial stability of the district while looking at the quality of the education the schools provide.
According to a release from the district about the meetings, the goals are to develop an understanding of the goals and plans between the district and the two member towns.
The meetings will also be a chance to discuss how the towns and the district should deal with current and future financial issues, according to the district.
The meetings stem from comments and concerns of leaders from the towns and the district during the school’s budget process this year, which requires approval of both Gill and Montague.
The district leadership initiated the conversations, which will include the school district administration, the school committee, and representatives from selectboards, finance committees and/or town managers from both towns. The conversations will be open to the public and moderated by Debbie Lynangale of the Mediation and Training Collaborative.
