SHELBURNE — The Selectboard has recently received two inquiries about whether musicians are allowed to play amplified music for money on the deck overlooking the Glacial Potholes.
Board members said they would like to see the subject brought up during a Shelburne Falls Village Partnership meeting, to “be on the same page” with Buckland, on the other side of the village.
In the past, said Town Administrator Terry Narkowicz, the town has told performers and street vendors they must get permission from the businesses or property owners whose place they are standing in front of. In this case, she said, the deck is on land owned both by the town (the narrow part of the deck closest to the dam), and by the owners of the former Mole Hollow building, which is for sale. The Mole Hollow property includes the gated stairway area closest to the former candle shop.
Recently, a musician who started performing evenings near the Buckland entrance of the Bridge of Flowers was told she could not play there, because it is privately owned property, and the owners don’t want soliciting, busking or selling in close proximity to the bridge.
