5:33 p.m. — Control reports an officer wanted for damage to a couple of vehicles in the reporting person’s lot on Daniel Shays Highway. The officer found two vehicles were struck by a driver’s side rear tire which had come off. This vehicle was being repaired by a man who had just worked on this tire, and was on a test drive. The man involved and the reporting person have talked and will be trying to work out amongst themselves.
6:28 p.m. — An employee of a gas station on Daniel Shays Highway, reports a bike rack (on a vehicle) ripped the gas hose off one of the pumps. Officer found minor damage, and information was exchanged.
7:24 p.m. — Caller reports she is standing in the South Cemetery near the flagpole with her friend, and they saw a parachutist drop from the sky, and disappear from view without the parachute itself deploying for view. Officers and K-9 responded, and started a search of the woods. Control was requested to contact Jumptown regarding any missing parachutist. Jumptown called back a short time later, and advised all parachutists are accounted for, but a jumper experienced a problem, and had to cut away. The item was retrieved by a motorist and returned.
9:11 p.m. — Loud noise disturbance from area of Beach Lane reporting fireworks in the area; officers responded and located a group on the beach on Camp Rod, and they were advised of the law. No unspent fireworks were noted. Both police units observed fireworks going off on a raft and/or on the island area in the cove near Camp Road, but no way to access either.
9:56 p.m. — Caller from Eagleville Road reporting fireworks in that area; on officer’s arrival he was unable to determine the source.
8:21 p.m. — Two callers reported concern about large groups of people at the Eunice Williams Bridge, one saying that many people were urinating into the town’s drinking supply.
8:28 p.m. — A report of an overdose at Oak Courts. Massachusetts Department of Children and Families responded to the scene and removed the child from the residence.
1:07 a.m. — A Greenfield man who was trying to break into an apartment on Riverside Drive through the doors and windows and then breaking into a vehicle that was not his was later arrested after a foot pursuit with the police. Dylan J. Wickline, 22, of Federal Street, was arrested on charges of possession of both a Class A and Class B drug, breaking and entering a vehicle in the nighttime for a felony, possession of a burglarious instrument and resist to arrest.
11:01 p.m. — Man reports he was struck by a vehicle on Turnpike Road, but could not give a description of it. He later said he wasn’t sure if he was hit by a car. He had injuries that did not appear to be recent. Said he last remembered riding a bicycle on Deerfield Avenue in Greenfield. Greenfield police asked to look for a bicycle there.
9:30 a.m. — Caller from South Main Street reports a hit-and-run accident an that a truck was involved, but that it left the scene; on officer’s arrival he met with the people involved and learned the truck accidentally backed into an inactive construction truck while doing work for the reporting person. There was minor damage done to the rear passenger taillights.
5:37 p.m. — Police served a warrant arrest of Grinnell Street resident, Matthew A. Campagna, 30.
11:30 p.m. — Control gets a call from Bangs Avenue who reports her tenants are causing issues and trying to start a fight; officer spoke with all involved who were upset over the condition of the apartment and other landlord issues; Options were provided and all people were instructed to call it a night.
12:46 a.m. — A police pursuit from Holly Avenue to Silver Street led the arrest of Montague resident Joshua Hastings, 33, on several charges: operating under the influence of liquor on a second offense, operating under the influence of liquor with a BAC level 0.8 or over, possession of a Class B drug, speeding, failure to stop for the police, failure to stop or yield, one-way street violation, leave scene of property damage and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Hastings was stopped by the police on Holly Avenue in a dark colored sedan going toward Federal Street. Passing McDonald’s Hastings was going about 60 miles per hour, according to the police log. Turning onto Silver Street the car hit a cement post on the property of Long Farm Terrace.
12:17 p.m. — An accident without injuries occurred at the Interstate 91 rotary between a blue 2009 Nissan Versa and a white 2011 Toyota Prius.
9:14 p.m. — A traffic stop on Crescent Street involving a green 1992 Chevrolet S10 pickup resulted in the arrest of Jeapordy Tanis, 33, of Dell Street in Turners Falls on charges of possessing a Class A drug, driving with a suspended license and a lights violation.
1:28 a.m. — Caller reports hitting a deer on Federal Street, Montague Center, and that deer was killed.
2:15 a.m. — Control reports a person from the earlier call on Bangs Avenue would like an officer again, as the one of the tenants is acting up again; officer spoke to the reporting person who stated he was outside rolling up an extension cord and threatened to steal items from his own apartment; she just wanted it on record and said if it continues she will call back.
7:03 a.m. — Control reports a bear on the property of the caller on East River Street. Officer sent, but the bear had departed the area.
Noon — Larceny reported on New Athol Road where an officer responded to a business report of stolen merchandise. BOLO was given to both local and state police for a dark Chevy Silverado that was involved. A video from Daniel Shays Highway, was also used to attempt to identify the vehicle; under investigation.
4:29 p.m. — Motor vehicle stop on East Main Street for a number plate obstruction, a ball hitch, and found also an expired registration sticker was affixed, plus a seat belt violation open container of marijuana in a vehicle, and possessing a Class B drug, to wit, percocet. The operator was issued a verbal warning for traffic-related offenses, and a criminal summons was issued for the possession of the Class B substance. The passenger was issued a verbal seat belt violation warning.
6:14 p.m. — Motor vehicle violation on West River Street at South Main Street where a vehicle failed to stop or yield to oncoming traffic at the traffic light. While speaking with the operator, the officer observed several used suboxone strips scattered through the purse and vehicle; the operator was issued a verbal warning for the traffic offense, and she provided the officer with a valid prescription for the suboxone.
10 a.m. — Assault reported on East Main Street. Control got a call about a fight near the check out line; on officer’s arrival both people were on the scene. Orange Fire Department was requested for a person with a bloody nose, and the aggressor stated that he did throw a punch, due to the recent threat made by the other person, that said he would kill this person. The male with the bloody nose refused medical treatment, and the other man was advised it would be on record.
3 p.m. — Hazard reported on Brookside Road where a caller said a fallen tree is resting on wires and the caller advised the wires are sparking; Orange Fire Department responded. Later National Grid crew, and a tree service removed the fallen tree, and restored power there.
6:30 p.m. — Offices were flagged down on Daniel Shays Highway, by a male who advised he witnessed three youths giving money to an older man so that he could purchase alcohol for the youths. The vehicle and person were located, parked in front of the residence occupied by three juveniles, consuming alcohol and smoking marijuana. An officer contacted all the parents of the youths, and made arrangements for them to be picked up. The drugs were confiscated, and alcohol was destroyed on the scene.
8:58 p. m.— Accident reported at South Main Street and West Myrtle Street; Report shows a gray Ford Focus was traveling Eastbound on West Myrtle Street, but failed to stop at the stop sign and continued across onto South Main Street. The second car, a gray Toyota Sequoia SUV was traveling Northbound on South Main, and had the right of way, and struck the Ford on the passenger side, pushing the vehicle in a National Grid pole. Orange Fire Department and ambulance responded, along with Athol Ambulance to assist. The people involved were extricated and transported to Athol Memorial Hospital. National Grid was dispatched to fix the snapped pole.
1:55 a.m. — Dispatch had received multiple calls regarding a male and female were involved in a verbal altercation, and that the girl had slit her wrists and ran to the South Main Street bridge to jump. She was later located in Chase Court and didn’t display any visible injuries and didn’t make any suicidal statement. She had been drinking and was released to another person. Another disturbance was called in at 2:45 a.m., and reported as a physical altercation but officers determined the altercation occurred in the hallway of a building. A third disturbance on West Main Street reported at 4:15 a. m. where the female had returned back to a residence, and was now fighting with someone. A 17-year-old juvenile was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace.
