ORANGE — Lewis H. Starkey was arrested on charges of murder, armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on Sunday in Orange, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s office.
Mary Carey, the spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s office, said he was arrested without incident by Orange police. He is expected to be arraigned in Orange District Court today, according to Carey.
The Chicopee Police Department posted about the arrest on its Facebook page Sunday. Michael Wilk, the spokesman for Chicopee Police, said in the statement that Starkey was arrested at 9:15 a.m. He was in the same red Lincoln SUV he had been reported to be in. Starkey had been wanted by police since July 5.
Just before 12:30 a.m. that day, police say, Starkey, 53, shot and killed 48-year-old Amanda Glover with a shotgun in the house they shared at 179 West St. in Wendell.
Then, police say, he drove more than an hour to Specialized Trucking company at 215 Griffith Road in Chicopee and fired another shot through a window at a worker there, injuring the employee with debris and glass shards.
Before another shot could be fired, the gun jammed, allowing the employee to wrench it away, and Starkey fled, according to Wilk.
