FLORENCE — A woman called police on Saturday evening to report that two men had tried to steal her backpack in Look Memorial Park.

The woman, 41, told police she ended up with a cut on her abdomen from what “must’ve been a knife.”

She called police just before 8 p.m. from the park. She said she was on the bike path when two men rode up on “BMX-type bikes” and tried to grab her backpack.

Police said the woman did not provide a more specific location, so it was unclear whether she was on one of the park’s trails or the bike path that runs alongside the park on Main Street when the men attacked her.

She did not let go of the backpack.

The men hit her, and she hit back, she told police. During the struggle she ended up with the cut, according to a police report.

The men left empty-handed, failing to take the backpack, according to the police report.

The woman was treated at Cooley Dickinson Hospital and released, police said.

According to police, there were no other witnesses. The incident was under investigation Sunday and there were no suspects.

The only description the woman was able to give was that one man was wearing a white “wife-beater” type shirt.
