ORANGE — A dramatic evening unfolded on Lake Mattawa, where search and rescue dive teams searched for a missing woman, who was later found on shore and transported to the hospital.
Sgt. James Sullivan of the Orange Police Department said the woman was found on a nearby porch and was taken to Athol Memorial Hospital around 9:30 p.m.
The Northfield Dive and Rescue Team deployed divers into the lake, according to Sullivan. Orange Police, Orange Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police were all on scene assisting. The State Police helicopter was also used during the roughly two-hour search.
Sullivan said he wanted to thank those in the area who contributed to the search. He said that other boaters on the lake assisted in the search and local residents were helpful during the land search around their properties.
Sullivan said the woman’s state was unknown. He said it was not an accident and no foul play was suspected. He said additional details of the incident were not immediately available.
