BERNARDSTON — The last nine months have been busy ones at the Crumpin-Fox Club as it takes on a snazzy new look. Now, the golf course’s owners are ready to show it off.
The Crumpin-Fox Club, an 18-hole, 200-acre course on Parmenter Road, is holding an open house on Friday, June 30, and Saturday, July 1, featuring an all-you-can-eat barbeque buffet, live music from T.J. and the Peepers, games for children and discounted golf, according to Director of Golf John Jackson.
Jackson explained the open house is a way of “showcasing what we’ve done so far and (giving) people a taste of what we’re going to continue to do to the course and the property.”
“We’ve been on a continuous renovation project,” he said. “It’s kind of the rebirth of Crumpin-Fox.”
“We’ve spent a little over a million dollars on the course in the last nine months,” added Michael Behn, president of Sandri Companies, which owns Crumpin-Fox. “We’re ready to show it to people.”
The renovations include: installing a new deck off the clubhouse, which Behn said is the largest in Franklin County and possibly in western Massachusetts; adding sod to improve areas around the greens; adding new golf cart paths; installing a pavilion; and replacing the fleet of gas-powered golf carts with electric carts that feature GPS.
Jackson’s said his goal is to see Crumpin-Fox return to being one of the top 100 golf courses in the country, as it was in the 1990s.
“We’re not there yet, but we’re starting to look like one again,” he said. “People will come up and be so blown away by what we are right now, but also by what we’re going to do … We’re not stopping until we reach our ultimate goal.”
From 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, attendees can eat a buffet style meal for $10 and listen to live music, though Jackson said the club’s restaurant, Zeke’s Bar and Grill, will also sell food. There will be golfing contests around the clubhouse, an ice cream truck, and golf cart rides and games for children.
Jackson and Behn said some special guests are expected, including members of the Bernardston Selectboard, Sandri Companies CEO Tim Van Epps and Massachusetts Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Jay Ash.
Special rates apply throughout the weekend. It is $50 per person to play 18 holes with a golf cart before noon, $35 per person after noon, and children 12 and under play for free if accompanied by an adult. There will also be sales, with 20 percent off apparel and up to 50 percent off clearance items.
